Shreveport , LA is the most populous city in the Shreveport-Bossier City metropolitan area and ranks third in population in Louisiana after Baton Rouge and New Orleans . Shreveport was founded in 1836 by the Shreve Town Company, a corporation established to develop a town at the juncture of the newly navigable Red River and the Texas Trail, an overland route into the newly independent Republic of Texas. Prior to Texas becoming independent, this trail entered Mexico. The city grew throughout the 20th century and, after the discovery of oil in Louisiana, became a national center for the oil industry. Standard Oil of Louisiana (absorbed by Standard Oil of New Jersey and now part of ExxonMobil) and United Gas Corporation (now part of Pennzoil) were headquartered in the city until the 1960s and 1980s.

Shreveport is the educational, commercial and cultural center of the Ark-La-Tex region, where Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas meet. It is the location of Centenary College of Louisiana, Louisiana State University Shreveport, Louisiana Tech University Shreveport, Southern University at Shreveport, and Louisiana Baptist University. Its neighboring city Bossier City is the location of Bossier Parish Community College. The city forms part of the I-20 Cyber Corridor linking Shreveport and Bossier City, Ruston, Grambling, and Monroe to Dallas and Tyler, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia. The Facility - Overton Brooks VA Medical Center
Overton Brooks VAMC provides health care services at 5 locations in Louisiana, southern Arkansas, and east Texas. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for providing Gastroenterology care, including, but not limited to:

• Clinic and Surgical Care: Provide clinical Gastroenterology services. Be present on time for any scheduled clinics/surgeries as documented by physical presence in the clinic or operating room at the scheduled start time.
• Operative Services: Provide comprehensive clinical gastroenterology services including the full range of colonoscopy and Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) procedures such as:
  • Colonoscopy
    • Colonoscopy via colostomy
    • Colonoscopy w/biopsy(ies)
    • Colonoscopy w/ablation of tumor/polyp/lesion
    • Colonoscopy w/removal of tumor/polyp/lesion by hot forcep
    • Colonoscopy w/removal of tumor/polyp/lesion by snare technique
    • Colonoscopy w/out biopsy
    • Colonoscopy w/ submucosal
  • Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
    • EGD diagnostic
    • EGD w/biopsy(ies)
    • EGD w/removal of tumor/polyp/lesion by hot forceps
    • EGD w/removal of tumor/polyp/lesion by snare technique
    • ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography)
• Provide consultative services at the patient's bedside if the patient is not ambulatory and in the clinic setting if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic. Procedures shall be scheduled for completion within 30 days of the date of the consult.
• Follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.
• Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Gastroenterology clinical or surgical patients.

Requirements:

• Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American College of Physicians -Internal Medicine and The American College of Gastroenterology
• Current BLS and ACLS Certifications
