Laboratory Section Supervisor

The Laboratory Section Supervisor is responsible for monitoring and participating in all aspects of daily operations in an assigned section. Responsibilities include providing daily supervision of personnel and reporting of tests, monitoring workflow, evaluating compliance with service guarantees and quality control requirements, working cooperatively with all customers, responding effectively to meet or exceed the customer's needs, monitoring customer service satisfaction and addressing issues in a timely manner, orienting and training team members in the department, completing performance competency evaluations, coaching plans, recognizing and providing positive feedback and reward for performance, addressing disciplinary actions for all team members of an assigned section, scheduling staff to meet workload requirements while minimizing expense, assuming bench responsibilities as needed, performing routine and special laboratory testing following established policies and procedures, verifying results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability, performing, evaluating, and documenting all quality control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting procedures, monitoring test analysis to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained and that corrective action is taken as required, evaluating team competency, monitoring test results, worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing and maintenance logs, responsible for evaluating new test methodologies and instrumentation and making recommendations to the laboratory manager, implementing new test methods and procedures under the direction of the laboratory manager and medical director, supporting the manager in maintaining the operational budget within budgetary constraints, ordering operating supplies and monitoring inventory control, productivity and appropriate testing utilization, directing the development and compliance of all departmental policies and procedures for test performance, quality control, preventative maintenance including troubleshooting procedures according to regulatory and accreditation requirements, monitoring workflow and delegating responsibilities to team members of the section, regularly communicating with Manager on day-to-day operations, managing various human resources functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and performance counseling, maintaining reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, maintaining compliance with all Baptist Health policies and procedures, and performing all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a Bachelor in a related science field, a graduate from an approved school of medical laboratory technology or appropriate training facility, 5 years of laboratory experience, and certification by a professional laboratory-certifying agency, i.e. by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or eligible.
