Supervisory Criminal Investigator

Summary Position located under the Office of Professional Responsibility and Security Operations. Location will be determined upon selection. Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) in the Professional Responsibility Division; responsible for developing plans, objectives, and goals for integrity investigations of ATF employees nationwide, including cases involving racial and sexual harassment. Duties Major duties include (but are not limited to): Provides professional leadership and guidance in planning, coordinating, managing, and participating in integrity investigations. Leads or conducts investigations that may involve high‑profile criminal cases. Conducts special investigations, both criminal and administrative, in coordination with the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General. Participates with other agencies in joint integrity investigations involving cross‑jurisdictional matters and other agencies’ employees. Analyzes the complex and diverse circumstances surrounding misconduct and integrity cases and discerns substantive misconduct cases from those that are management issues. Consults with personnel in investigation units outside of the Bureau as well as with experts outside government to provide guidance, conduct trend analysis, and resolve cross‑agency integrity issues/problems. Works with the Office of Chief Counsel to review new legislation and court decisions that affect how investigations are conducted to ensure needed changes are incorporated into program methods. Requirements Time‑in‑grade requirements and qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Key requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen or national. Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation. Must be registered or exempt from the Selective Service. May be required to serve a one‑year probationary period. Pass drug screening and be subject to random drug test. Must display and maintain required proficiency with firearms. Take and pass a medical examination and meet medical requirements. Must take and successfully complete a polygraph examination. Possess a current and valid automobile operator’s license. May have to attend and successfully pass the following training: Occupational Questionnaire ATF Special Agent Basic Training (SABT) Structured Interview Law Enforcement Training: Must have successfully completed and passed the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’s Criminal Investigator training program (CITP), or an equivalent and recognized federal law enforcement training program and upload certification. Qualifications To qualify for the Supervisory Criminal Investigator position GS‑15 must meet the following by closing date: Specialized Experience Demonstrated experience which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume. Specialized Experience Must Include All Of: Providing leadership to others such as work groups, teams or special projects. Communicating orally with investigative reports and briefings. Negotiating and collaborating with others (i.e., interacting with other law enforcement agencies (state, local or federal)). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone. No substitution of education for experience is permitted. Mobility Plan New employees hired pursuant to this vacancy announcement must sign a mobility agreement.
