Data Center Technical Operations Engineer

Kforce has a client in Sterling, VA that is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Operations Engineer to support the critical infrastructure of a data center environment. This role requires a strong foundation in mechanical, electrical, and emergency systems, along with the ability to manage documentation and respond to alerts in real time. Mechanical Systems:
- Operate and maintain HVAC systems, including air handling units and cooling towers
- Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, fans, and fluid transfer systems
- Understand refrigeration cycles and evaporative cooling methods
- Conduct basic plumbing and piping inspections
- Manage three-phase power distribution and UPS operations
- Operate switchgear and circuit breakers
- Follow electrical safety protocols including lock-out/tag-out procedures
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and understand basic PLC functions
- Utilize Building Management Systems (BMS) and environmental monitoring tools
- Respond to alerts and manage data logging/trending for shift turnovers
- Support emergency systems including generators, ATS, and critical load management
- Maintain accurate work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and equipment history
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and SOPs
- Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters and thermal imaging devices
- Operate building automation and maintenance management software
- Technical or trade school degree preferred
- Certifications in HVAC or electrical systems are a plus
- 1-5 years of experience in facility maintenance; data center experience preferred
- Background in emergency response is advantageous
- Demonstrate basic networking knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
