Weld Repair Technician
MAG-TECH INC
MagTech is seeking a motivated Weld Repair Technician Helper to join our Southgate, MI team. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates with a recent technical degree or 1-2 years of hands-on experience who are eager to develop advanced skills in weld repair, fabrication, and industrial maintenance. The trainee will work under the guidance of experienced technicians while learning company standards, safety procedures, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with weld repair and rework on metal components and assemblies
- Learn and perform basic welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick) as applicable
- Inspect welds and materials for defects, damage, or wear
- Prepare materials by cleaning, grinding, cutting, and fitting parts
- Follow blueprints, work instructions, and welding procedures
- Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with safety regulations
- Use hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment properly
- Document work performed and report issues to supervisors
- Support senior weld technicians with repair and maintenance projects
- Recent degree or certificate in Welding Technology, Manufacturing, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field OR
- 1-2 years of welding or metalworking experience in a shop or industrial environment
- Basic understanding of welding processes and metal fabrication
- Ability to read basic blueprints or willingness to learn
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Willingness to learn, take direction, and work as part of a team
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Exposure to welding
- Basic knowledge of weld inspection or repair techniques
- Experience working in a manufacturing, automotive, or industrial setting
