The Operations Coordinator is responsible for supporting and coordinating the daily operations of the Community Food Center. The primary goal of this position is to ensure the efficient distribution of food to the community by managing resources safely and effectively. The Coordinator will work closely with volunteers and staff to ensure that all activities are carried out in compliance with food safety standards and transportation regulations.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Operations and Warehouse Management
- Oversee warehouse operations, including receiving, storing, and distributing food products.
- Use inventory management tools to track product movement and maintain accurate records.
- Prepare materials and equipment for daily production and distribution activities.
- Ensure all products are properly labeled and coded according to established procedures.
- Accurately record material and product waste.
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards and operational procedures.
2. Volunteer Coordination and Supervision
- Coordinate volunteer registration and check-in processes, ensuring required waiver forms are completed.
- Assign tasks to volunteers and provide training on specific duties.
- Supervise volunteer work during shifts, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Effectively communicate the organization’s mission and the impact of the work to volunteers.
- Facilitate communication between the operations team and volunteers, ensuring they understand their responsibilities.
3. Customer Service and Communication
- Greet clients at the distribution center with a professional and friendly attitude.
- Provide guidance regarding available resources and the food distribution process.
- Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
- Clearly communicate procedures and resource information to volunteers and clients.
4. Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety footwear.
- Maintain updated records regarding food safety, sanitation, and storage temperatures.
- Train volunteers on food safety practices and cleaning procedures.
- Verify compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and ensure safe material handling.
- Regularly inspect material handling equipment to ensure safe operation.
5. Administrative Management and Reporting
- Prepare daily reports on operational status and team performance.
- Document inventory issues, food loss, or operational incidents.
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager to plan process improvements.
- Participate in team meetings to coordinate activities and report results.

Requirements
- Experience in warehouse operations, distribution, or logistics.
- Valid driver’s license and experience driving non-commercial vehicles.
- Ability to operate a forklift or willingness to learn.
- Fluent communication in English and Spanish.
- Previous experience supervising teams or volunteers.
- Knowledge of food safety practices and inventory management.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.
- Serve as a key representative of the Food Bank with affiliates and partners, ensuring respectful and professional communication.
