About the Role: The Activity Assistant plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents within a healthcare setting by planning, organizing, and facilitating engaging recreational and therapeutic activities. This position focuses on promoting physical, emotional, and social well‑being through tailored programs that meet the diverse needs and interests of residents. The Activity Assistant collaborates closely with healthcare professionals and family members to ensure activities are safe, inclusive, and supportive of individual care plans. By fostering a positive and stimulating environment, the Activity Assistant helps residents maintain independence, build relationships, and experience joy in their daily lives. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the holistic care approach, improving overall resident satisfaction and health outcomes. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience or training in activity coordination, recreational therapy, or a related field within a healthcare or senior living environment. Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations applicable to activity facilitation. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with residents and team members. Ability to perform physical tasks associated with activity setup and resident assistance. Preferred Qualifications: Certification as an Activity Director (e.g., NCTRC or equivalent). Experience working with elderly populations or individuals with cognitive impairments such as dementia. Training in first aid and CPR. Familiarity with adaptive recreational equipment and therapeutic modalities. Proficiency in documenting and reporting using electronic health record systems. Responsibilities: Develop and implement a variety of recreational and therapeutic activities that cater to the physical, cognitive, and emotional needs of residents. Assist residents in participating safely and effectively in scheduled activities, providing encouragement and support as needed. Maintain accurate records of activity participation and resident progress, reporting observations to the care team to inform individualized care plans. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including nursing and social services, to coordinate activities that complement medical and therapeutic treatments. Prepare and organize materials and spaces required for activities, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Skills: The required skills enable the Activity Assistant to design and lead activities that are both enjoyable and therapeutic, ensuring resident engagement and safety. Strong communication skills are essential for building rapport with residents and collaborating effectively with healthcare teams. Organizational skills are used daily to plan activities, manage materials, and maintain accurate records. Physical stamina and dexterity are necessary to assist residents and prepare activity spaces.
