The Ski Patrol Manager manages and oversees employees in the overall operations of the Ski Patrol department with an emphasis on safety and liability, operating within regulations, policies and procedures of the department and company, as well as those applicable of local, state and federal entities, and within departmental budgetary constraints. The essential functions of this position include: **ESSENTIAL DUTIES:**The Ski Patroller responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:* Be an effective leader within the guidelines of department and company policies, procedures and values in fulfillment of Monarch’s mission statement to “provide an authentic, welcoming mountain experience rooted in genuine service and a deep respect for our community and environment.”* Responsible for ensuring all forms, tracking, verifications and necessary documenting are executed and accurately completed in a timely manner. This includes, though not limited to requests, training, payroll, timekeeping, fiscal responsibilities, incidents, disciplinary actions...etc.* Perform the hiring and termination of approximately 30 to 35 seasonal departmental employees.* Provide guidance and oversee the efficient scheduling of department staff.* Oversee the initial and ongoing training of departmental staff, to include the dissemination and enforcement of company and department policies.* Provide timely employee feedback and conduct qualitative performance reviews of department staff on a regular basis; include your level 2 managerial staff, as appropriate, in accomplishing A-team reviews.* Operate within budgetary constraints for the current season; contribute to departmental budget proposal for the following season.* Assist in identifying, researching and submitting departmental capital requests for fiscal review.* Work in conjunction with other departments as part of the Monarch team.* Develop, review and maintain on a regular basis training materials, manuals, job descriptions and any other documents necessary for the overall success of the department.* Help prepare and oversee personnel in the event of an emergency. Assist in coordinating and leading lift evacuations and/or search and rescue operations when necessary.* Identify and train personnel for opportunities within the department for the purpose of retaining valuable and interested employees, and the filling of key positions in the event of a departure. Seek outside training opportunities to further the skill depth of MSP.* Provide professional solutions and courteous assistance in problem solving for both guests and employees.* Monitor and maintain the inventory and condition and organization of department supplies, properties and facilities.* Manage and oversee the overall daily and seasonal operations of the Ski Patrol department, delegating duties as appropriate.* Maintain a high awareness of liability as it pertains to ski area operations, employee and guest safety and oversee accident investigations.* Work closely with the MSP Medical Advisor and assist in the oversight of the pain management program at MSP and facilitate patient feedback for patroller continuing education. And coordinate the ALS program.* Attend conferences, seminars, trainings or similar events as appropriate.* Collaborate with Monarch Cat Skiing personnel on snowpack, weather observations and personnel training.* Supervise and oversee avalanche control and forecasting operations for in-area terrain and maintain explosive magazine documentation to state standards.* Assist in maintaining appropriate Local, State, Federal and USFS regulatory records.* Learn and assist in managing Smart Mountain and Survey123 platforms and ensure proper documentation is executed in an accurate and timely manner.* Assist in managing summer projects including saw work, erosion control, signs, trail maintenance, and other summer maintenance duties and tasks.* Use best practices and follow all safety and operating procedures in the performance of all duties, and direct staff to follow best practices in safety and operating procedures during duties.* Other duties as assigned.**PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:*** Must be an expert skier.* Ability to maintain a good attitude, set a positive example and work well with guests and employees.* Ability to speak clearly and pleasantly and communicate in the English language.* Ability to motivate, delegate and give direction to employees in a positive and non-condescending manner.* Aware of surroundings and the ability to identify, respond quickly and provide professional solutions to situational needs.* Excellent English reading and writing communication skills.* Must be available by phone when off duty.* Proficient computer and website navigation skills to include Microsoft Office and SkiMonarch.com.* Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials and situations* Working knowledge of ski area liabilities and human resource laws as applicable in the state of Colorado. **JOB REQUIREMENTS:*** Minimum Age: 21* Legal citizen of the United States or possess other proper work permit authentication.* Current Driver’s License and a company insurable driving record.* A college degree is preferred.* Minimum of two years supervisory experience required.* Minimum five years of Ski Patrol experience required.* Must possess current certificates in O.E.C. or E.M.T., and C.P.R./A.E.D.* Must be certified in Avalanche I & II/Pro 1.* Experience as an avalanche control route leader preferred.* Type I explosives permit preferred.* Requires the ability to work any day of the week, Saturday through Friday and holidays as scheduled, and additional time if workload or circumstances require it.* Must be available by phone, or able to respond to a call from your direct supervisors within a reasonable timeframe, while on or off duty.* Requires working at high elevation (up to 12,000’), and with some exposure to adverse weather conditions, such as severe cold, heavy snowfall, strong winds and intense sun.* Must be able to load and unload a chairlift, stop, turn, change directions suddenly, adapt to uneven, varying terrain, kick turn, and move in both directions on skis on all types of terrain and in all winter weather conditions.* Must be able to ski a loaded toboggan on all terrain and in all conditions.* Job requires stretching, bending, pushing and shoveling snow.* Requires sitting and working at a computer station for moderate periods of time.* Requires driving or riding a snowmobile.* Must be able to routinely lift moderate to heavy (90 lbs.) loads.* Possible exposure to bio-hazards (see JHAs).* Some travel will be required to attend conferences and meetings. **JOB TYPE:** Full Time, Year Round**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:*** Compensation: Proposed hiring rate starts at $65,000 (actual pay dependent on qualifications and experience). + Level 3 Manager profit sharing* Benefits: Monarch Season Pass and many more!
