Hiring Department Department of Medicine Job Description The University of Missouri’s Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Environmental Medicine is seeking a full‑time Nurse Practitioner–Specialty Care (NPSC) or Physician Assistant–Specialty Care (PASC) to support its expanding inpatient pulmonary and critical care service. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will practice with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating closely with attending physicians, fellows, residents, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver evidence‑based critical care across weekdays, weekends, and nights. The APP will demonstrate expert clinical judgment, apply current research and evidence‑based practice standards, and participate in quality improvement initiatives to support patient care excellence. Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with acute and chronic pulmonary and critical care conditions. Conduct comprehensive evaluations with appropriate documentation. Develop and adjust individualized treatment plans. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies. Prescribe medications and blood products within established protocols. Document care through admission, daily progress, procedure, and discharge notes. Communicate patient status and care plans to the healthcare team in a timely manner. Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, and care plans to promote understanding and adherence. Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff and other healthcare professionals. Address and help resolve patient and family concerns related to care delivery. Provide preventive health guidance and support post‑discharge planning for continuity of care. Recognize deviations from expected findings requiring timely intervention and apply evidence‑based practice standards to clinical care. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, identify patient care trends, and collaborate with physician leadership to review programmatic and outcomes data. Shift 7 days on, 7 days off (scheduling is currently structured in a 7 days on/7 days off model, final details will be individualized at the time of hire and expected to evolve as the program continues to expand). The role offers approximately 26 weeks of inpatient service annually and an average of 80 hours per two‑week period. Minimum Qualifications Physician Assistant (PA) licensure by the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts.
