Fiber Optic Technician Position

Skilled position installing, configuring, testing, operating, maintaining the fiber optic infrastructure from terminal to parcel. Reports to the OSP Crew Leader.

Responsible for the installation of new residential drops from MST to NID, and routing fiber and/or CAT-6 within the premises. May be called to direct bury service drop. Ensures the fiber optic network is completely documented. Performs the installation of mechanical connections of optical fibers. Performs termination of CAT-5 and CAT-6 cables. Performs construction and maintenance job tasks associated with Fiber Optic cable. Conforms to policies and procedures for safe work practices, the proper use of vehicles, tools, and equipment associated with accepted communication line work practices. Performs testing, configuration, installation, and troubleshooting of ONT edge electronics hardware used in implementing Broadband Services. Performs technical testing of fiber optic cables in the field using a light source and power meter. Performs testing on fiber optic cables to pinpoint any breaks in the cable when troubleshooting customer circuits. Visually identifies fibers through labeling and color-coding. Performs other duties, as assigned.

High School Diploma or GED from an accredited educational institution is required. Minimum of one year of work experience as a Telecommunications Technician. When considering new job applicants, comparable amounts of training and experience may be substituted in lieu of some of the minimum qualifications.
