Academic Chief of Thoracic Surgery - Robotic Lead

Job Summary and Responsibilities The Department of Surgery at Creighton University Medical Center CHI Health is recruiting an academic Chief of Thoracic Surgery. The role will lead and expand our clinical, research, and educational activities in partnership with the Department of Surgery, Pulmonary Medicine, and Lynch Cancer Center. The Chief will oversee the Thoracic Surgery program, which is part of an integrated multispecialty system dedicated to high‑quality outcomes. The position includes teaching Creighton University surgical residents and medical students, conducting research with collaborators at Common Spirit Health and the Creighton University School of Medicine, and developing an integrated thoracic oncology program. Expertise in robotic thoracic surgery Collaborative work with foregut/minimally invasive surgery and pulmonary medicine teams Academic teaching of surgical residents and medical students, and research collaboration with Common Spirit and Creighton University School of Medicine Reporting to the Creighton Chair of Surgery and CHI Director of Surgery Highly competitive salary guarantee Paid relocation expenses Location: Omaha, Nebraska – a city known for livability, affordability, quality of life, and schooling Electronic medical records via EPIC Universal Care model – entire hospital floor dedicated to cardiac and thoracic care All cases staffed by B/C cardial anesthesia Four OR suites, including one hybrid suite Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion – women, under‑represented minorities, and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply Job Requirements American Board Certified or Board Eligible in the specified area of thoracic surgery Valid and unrestricted state medical license or license‑eligible Board certified in thoracic surgery with fellowship training in non‑cardiac thoracic surgery Clinical experience in the management of thoracic diseases Training in minimally invasive surgery and/or robotic‑assisted surgery Minimum of 5 years of experience with demonstrated leadership skills Strong academic interest and participation in resident education and clinical research Track record of scholarly and educational activities at the level of Associate Professor at Creighton University School of Medicine Where You'll Work Omaha, Nebraska – consistently ranked among America’s best cities for livability, affordability, quality of life, and schooling.
