Culinary Specialist - Food Service - Part Time

Food Service WorkerResponsible for the preparation of high quality, palatable and appetizing food for patient/resident and non?Patient meals. Prepares, portions, and serves food based on food production specifications and in accordance with standardized recipes. Complies with all regulatory requirements including State DOH Long Term Care and JCAHO StandardsHigh School graduate (or GED) required Able to read, write and be able to understand written and oral communication.Previous Food Service experience in a healthcare setting desirable, but not required Previous cooking experience desirable, but not required Previous customer service experience desirable, preferably in the food service industry Personal computer skills preferredDevelops and maintains good communication with patients, residents, customers, and co?workers. Good communication during tray lines is expected.Responds to customer issues and concerns, promptly reports concerns to supervisor. Greets all customers with a smile, helpful demeanor and utilizes AIDET.Controls food and paper waste and uses resources efficiently. Does not cause waste due to over?production, improper rotation of food or not checking dates. Assures all items are labeled, dated, and properly stored using First?In First?Out rules, with raw products always stored on the lowest shelves away from cooked foodsPrepares all foods according to recipes, production sheets, prep sheets, and count sheets. Carefully follows production sheets and make sure correct pars/amounts of foods are prepared.Foods are temped for appropriate temperatures before served, cooling temperatures are recorded, temperature of foods held on steam table are recorded verifying safety, all foods are properly rotated, dated and labeled, left?over are properly stored/cooled/used, all efforts are made to prevent cross?contamination, time and temperature rules will be adhered to (proper cooking temperatures/requirements are followed and foods kept out of danger zone), thermometers used properly and calibrated oftenFollows state, JCAHO, and department standards and sanitation procedures, and maintains a clean, sanitary working environment. Immediately reports any safety hazards to supervisor.Complies with start times of meal services for all services provided (caf, RCF, Child Day Care, patients, etc.).Works safely with equipment including correct operating and cleaning.Reports malfunctions to supervisor. Does not operate equipment not trained to use. Uses personal protective equipment correctly. Identifies/utilizes cleaning chemicals used, following directions recommended by manufacturers and SDS sheets. Follows facility and department infection control policies and procedures. Follows facility protocols for hazardous materials and waste program. Adheres to emergency programs and participates in drills as appropriate. Adheres to life safety program in fire drills as appropriate. Adheres to facility confidentiality and patient rights as outlined in the facility HIPPA policy and procedure. Participates and attends departmental meetings and staff development programs as appropriate.Other duties as assignedAssists in the training of new employees, making new employees feel welcomed and at easeUtilizes proper body mechanics to prevent injuriesAttends meetings and training sessions as required.
