Schedule

Days, 3x12 hour shifts: 6 AM - 6:30 PM, rotating weekends (usually every 5th weekend); no call required. Fill in Thursday night shift and can pick up additional vacancies if not covered by regular staff.

Job Description

Penobscot Valley Hospital, a critical access hospital in Lincoln, Maine, is seeking a qualified Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Technician (MLT) for a 13-week assignment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in microbiology, including proficiency in gram stains, culture planting, and blood cultures. The candidate should also be capable of performing blood bank testing. This role involves working holidays on a rotating basis and adhering to COVID regulations, including the use of PPE and handling isolation rooms.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests and procedures efficiently and accurately.
• Handle and process microbiological samples and cultures.
• Conduct blood bank testing as required.
• Demonstrate proficiency in phlebotomy practices.
• Adhere to safety and quality measures, including COVID regulations.
• Communicate effectively with team members and patients.
• Multitask and prioritize effectively while working independently.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Graduated from an approved Medical Technology or Medical Lab Technician program.
• Microbiology experience preferred, with essential skills in gram staining and culture handling.
• Proficient in phlebotomy and blood bank testing.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
• Strong communication skills and adaptability to varied work environments.
