The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking an expert who operates and maintains water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment and/or wastewater collection equipment, and also monitors compliance with State health regulations and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), to meet State, Federal, and local government regulations to implement corrective water treatment/wastewater treatment procedures within the Arizona State Prison Complex (ASPC) - Ft. Grant in Wilcox, AZ.

Job Duties:


- Analyzes treated water samples
- Monitors contaminated levels
- Monitors and tests alarm systems, maintenance and repairs of potable water systems, pumps, tanks, motors, compressors, etc.
- Maintains logs and documents test results, and distributes to proper individuals/entities
- Conducts/schedules preventative maintenance
- Maintains the emergency power supply to ensure water and sewage processing during power failures as required
- Rebuilds motors, pumps and pipelines as necessary
- Clears debris, flush sand traps
- Maintains access roads within water/wastewater systems
- Assists in overseeing the management, collections, treatments and distribution of water resources
- Gathers information including reservoir levels, water released and diverted, snow depth information and system activities
- Maintains required documentation related to hazardous materials
- Develops reports, prepares cost estimates, and projections related to water/wastewater collection, treatment and distribution
- Monitors budget accounts, prepares purchase orders
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs tools and equipment to ensure proper working order and accountability
- Provides supervision to lower level operators and the work of inmate workers in the operation and maintenance of the water wastewater treatment plan
- Drives on State business with a possible overnight stay
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):


Knowledge of:
- Principles and techniques of operating and maintaining a reservoir water system including reservoir management and intake structures, coagulations, and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfections, corrosion control, taste and odor control, plant operation, safety and laboratory procedures
- Principles and practices of surveying water resources and surface storage for capacity and potential contamination, and operation of water distribution system facilities, distribution system operation and maintenance, disinfections and safety
- Computer logging, and graphing methods related to water treatment and distribution
- Federal and State rules and regulations regarding water quality treatment and reporting requirements
- Practices, materials, tools and equipment used in sewage plant operation and maintenance
- Physical, biological, and chemical aspects of wastewater treatment

Skill in:
- Reading and comprehension of administrative policy, regulatory laws and procedures, safety and equipment publications, blueprints and schematic drawings
- Collecting field data and prepare maintenance logs
- Entering and retrieving data using a computer
- Hand tools and equipment used in maintaining roads, pipelines, culverts, valves, pumps and meters
- Written and verbal communication
- Estimating costs and ordering materials
- Organizing and time management
- Collecting field data and preparing maintenance logs and reports


Ability to:
- Read and understand water flow meters and gauges
- Provide first-line supervision to lower level employees and inmates
- Monitor and maintain gravity and force main sewage collection systems, including lines, clean outs, manholes and interceptors, sewage lift stations, wells, pumps (submersible, ejector, centrifugal, diaphragm, positive displacement and suction), control panels, alarm systems, mains, valves, and ventilation systems, surge tanks, aerations, tanks, pressure relief boxes, filter rooms, chlorine contact tanks, export stations and decant tanks
- Maintain interpersonal relationships
- Learn and adhere to Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) policy and procedures
- Perform heavy physical labor
- Work in a prison environment


Selective Preference(s):


- Valid Arizona Driver License
- Possess and Arizona Class 2 Certificate as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
- Candidate competing for the Primary Operator/Operator of Record must be certified as the same or higher level than the grading of the facility
- Grading for Arizona is one (1) through four (4) in all four disciplines; Water Treatment, Water, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection
- High School Diploma or GED

Pre-Employment Requirements:


Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination

In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).


Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
