Registered Nurse II -Oncology Infusion

Oncology/Infusion Nurse
Provide professional Oncology/Infusion nursing care according to Oncology Nursing Society standards and Infusion Nursing Society standards.
Responsibilities
- Administers comprehensive clinical therapeutic Infusion services such as complex chemotherapy regimens, immunotherapy, blood products, antibiotics, iron and hydration therapies.
- Performs phlebotomy and therapeutic phlebotomy services.
- Maintains and cares for vascular access devices, central and peripheral.
- Demonstrates theoretical and practical knowledge of administration and handling of antineoplastic/hazardous drugs.
- Demonstrates theoretical and practical knowledge of hazardous medication spill management.
- Demonstrates theoretical and practical knowledge of mechanical patient lift.
- Ability to manage high patient volumes and manage multiple patients at one time.
- Reviews laboratory tests results and reports clinical significant results to medical provider.
- Performs an assessment of all assigned patients, prior to therapy as well as an ongoing assessment during treatment thereby ensuring patient safety and stability.
- Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to react promptly in emergency situations, including the implementation of life saving procedures and acting as a member of the "Rapid Response Team" for the Infusion Center and Oncology Clinic.
- Documents in the electronic health record current condition and reports significant changes to medical provider.
- Validates chemotherapy/Immunotherapy orders and other medical provider orders for accuracy.
- Educates patients, family members and caregivers on infusion therapies and treatment process.
- Provides one hour of pre-chemotherapy/immunotherapy education session to Oncology patients when Nurse Practitioner (NP) unavailable.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary professional staff, patient, family and caregivers to ensure appropriate clinical follow-up plan and continuity of care.
- Clinical resource on chemotherapy/immunotherapy administration for inpatient nurses.
- Provides 4-hour clinical introduction to chemotherapy/Immunotherapy administration to inpatient nurses.
- Maintains records, inventory and physical security of drugs, medical supplies. Orders and restocks supplies as needed.
- Adheres to infection control practices to maintain a safe Infusion Center environment.
- Manages the interface between the patient and medical technology to ensure a safe, respectful and humane environment.
- Evaluates one's own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations, identifying short and long-term professional goals.
- Utilizes the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as the foundation for nursing practice.
- Adheres to, up to date, ONS/INS and institutional policies and procedures to administer Infusion services.
- Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and others practicing in a Shared Governance model of nursing practice.
- Makes decisions so that actions taken on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner, and care is delivered in a nonjudgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity preserving patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.
- Collaborates with the patient, family, caregivers and other health care providers in the formation of overall goals and the plan of care as well as in decisions related to care and the delivery of services.
- Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, evidence based-practice, and cost in planning and delivering patient care, and assists the patient and family in identifying and securing appropriate and available services to address health-related needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of oncology/Infusion and general nursing principles, techniques, and procedures for the care of patients.
- Knowledge of nursing science, principles, techniques and procedures for the care of patients.
- Knowledge of healthcare terminology, anatomy, physiology and concepts of disease.
- Knowledge and ability to utilize evidence based practice to develop the plan of care and interventions.
- Knowledge of hospital and Specialty Clinics' environments and how the services and functions interact. Knowledge of Alaskan culture.
- Knowledge of nursing theorists and ability to provide theory based care for patients. Knowledge of shared governance environment with shared-decision making.
- Skill in critical thinking to provide effective and compassionate nursing care, assessing patients and taking effective courses of action.
- Skill in providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands from patient, families and team members.
- Skill in evaluating health problems and making recommendations based on observations.
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications
Minimum Education Qualification
Associates degree in Nursing.
Minimum Experience Qualification
Non-supervisory None
Minimum Certification Qualification
Current registered nurse license in the State of Alaska Current BLS card required
Preferred Education Qualification
Bachelor's degree in nursing
Preferred Experience Qualification
One (1) year of Oncology/Infusion nursing experience
Preferred Certification Qualification
National Certification (OCN) is preferred

- Current ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy provider card or obtain within one year of hire.
$48 - $52 per hour
