Essential Functions

As an MLT, you will play a critical role in delivering timely and accurate results:

• Collect, label, process, and distribute specimens (venipuncture, finger stick, arterial draws)
• Perform laboratory testing across multiple disciplines including hematology, chemistry, blood bank, urinalysis, and more
• Conduct arterial blood gas collections and EKGs as needed
• Ensure quality control standards are met and maintained
• Troubleshoot test discrepancies and resolve equipment or procedural issues
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments
• Assist with inventory management and maintaining lab supplies
• Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of test results
• Support training and orientation of new staff and students
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment
• Participate in on-call rotations as needed

Skills, Qualifications, and Competencies

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (or equivalent) • Current ASCP certification (or equivalent) • Valid West Virginia MLT license • Previous hospital laboratory experience preferred • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and analyze results accurately • Commitment to quality, safety, and patient care

Physical Requirements

• Combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout shifts • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally • Manual dexterity required for specimen collection and lab procedures • Exposure to laboratory materials and clinical environments
