Claims Examiner II - Marine Personal Lines

Job Responsibilities Handle low to moderate complexity Personal Lines Marine physical damage claims in multiple jurisdictions. Confirm coverage of claims by reviewing policies and supporting documentation. Analyze coverage and communicate coverage positions; draft coverage position letters independently. Utilize investigative claim handling and settlement techniques to achieve cost‑effective and timely closure. Conduct, coordinate, and direct investigations into loss facts and extent of damages. Evaluate coverage, liability, and damages to determine the insured’s exposure. Set reserves within authority or recommend reserve changes to management. Use the diary system to proactively resolve outstanding issues and ensure timely processing and closure. Negotiate and settle claims directly with claimants. Prepare reports by collecting and summarizing information. Participate in special projects or assist other team members as requested. Travel to industry conferences or meetings, if required. Provide timely service throughout the claim lifecycle, meeting all service level agreements and responding to inquiries per company policy. Identify subrogation opportunities and fraud potential, making appropriate referrals. Maintain a strong emphasis on customer service for both internal and external customers. Education & Certifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree or focused technical degree is a plus. Must have or be eligible to receive any necessary claims adjuster license(s). Must be willing to complete basic insurance courses or achieve industry designation (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU). Work Experience & Knowledge Preferred two to five years of claims handling experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of the insurance industry or claims handling is preferred. Knowledge of marine accident investigation techniques is preferred. Skill Sets Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Strong organization and time‑management skills. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word). Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong desire for continuous improvement. Prior personal boating experience preferred. Travel Requirements Ability to travel to industry conferences or meetings, if required. United States Work Authorization US work authorization required.
