Job Summary:
Steins is one of Heavenly's oldest and most recognized on-mountain food and beverage destinations. Located directly on the snow, this popular ski-in outlet is home to Brats & Brews, the Umbrella Bar, and Snow Beach, bringing together great food, cold drinks, music, and après energy in a uniquely Heavenly setting.

 

While Steins operates as part of the Lakeview Lodge leadership structure, the Assistant General Manager will be primarily responsible for the daily leadership and operation of Steins, reporting to the Lakeview Lodge General Manager. This role will also spend time supporting Lakeview Lodge and the broader Mountain Dining operation as business needs require.

 

This is a highly visible, hands-on role for a leader who thrives outdoors and brings energy to the mountain regardless of the conditions. From cold, snowy days to a packed Snow Beach for DJ Cat and après, the Assistant General Manager leads daily operations, keeps the team motivated, and creates the welcoming, energetic atmosphere that has made Steins a Heavenly favorite. This role provides an opportunity to expand your leadership experience while preparing for future opportunities within Heavenly Mountain Dining and Vail Resorts.

 

 

Job Specifications:

• Starting Wage: $25.00/h - $28.60/h
• Employment Type: Winter Seasonal 2026/2027

Job Responsibilities:

 

Guest Experience

• Lead by example on the snow, creating a welcoming, energetic atmosphere while maintaining high standards for service, food and beverage quality, cleanliness, presentation, and the overall Steins experience.
• Support DJ Cat, après programming, promotions, and other guest activations while maintaining strong daily operations.
• Resolve guest concerns professionally and empower team members to deliver memorable hospitality.

Operations & Execution

• Lead daily opening, operating, and closing procedures, including staffing, shift leadership, product availability, equipment readiness, and operational preparedness.
• Coordinate food, beverage, bar, storage, and outdoor service operations to ensure Steins remains stocked, organized, and ready for changing business levels and mountain conditions.
• Partner with the Lakeview General Manager and Mountain Dining support teams on ordering, inventory, maintenance, product movement, and other operational needs.
• Support new menu offerings, seasonal initiatives, and operational improvements while identifying opportunities to strengthen efficiency and execution.

Financial Performance

• Support labor, food cost, beverage cost, revenue, and profitability goals through thoughtful day-to-day operational decisions.
• Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory controls, invoice accuracy, and month-end inventory processes.
• Monitor product usage and business trends, minimize waste, and adjust staffing and operational plans to changing demand.

People Leadership

• Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and frontline employees through hands-on leadership, pre-shift communication, in-the-moment coaching, recognition, and clear accountability.
• Foster a positive, energetic team culture and keep employees engaged and motivated through cold weather, busy services, and changing mountain conditions.
• Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and seasonal staffing while building a culture of teamwork, respect, communication, and hospitality.
• Model the professionalism, flexibility, positive energy, and guest-first mindset expected throughout Heavenly Mountain Dining.

Safety & Compliance

• Promote a culture of safety while ensuring compliance with food safety, sanitation, alcohol service, and company safety standards.
• Maintain a safe outdoor operation by proactively responding to snow, ice, weather, equipment, and other changing mountain conditions.
• Ensure required operational documentation, inspections, inventories, payroll, and other administrative responsibilities are completed accurately and on time.

Resort Partnership

• Maintain a strong partnership with the Lakeview Lodge General Manager and team, providing leadership support at Lakeview as operational needs require.
• Collaborate with Mountain Operations, Ski Patrol, Lift Operations, Marketing, Mountain Dining support teams, and other resort partners to support daily operations and special programming.
• Demonstrate a One Team mindset by supporting mountain-wide initiatives, special projects, and other operational responsibilities as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

• 2–4 years of progressive leadership experience in food & beverage, hospitality, restaurant, resort, bar, or related operations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment with a collaborative, hands-on leadership style.
• Experience with high-volume quick service, bar operations, outdoor hospitality, or après/event environments preferred.
• Experience with scheduling, inventory, purchasing, labor management, and basic financial reporting preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• California Food Handler Certification and ServSafe Manager Certification required.
• TIPS Certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and peak operating periods.
• Comfortable working and leading outdoors for extended periods in cold, windy, snowy, and rapidly changing mountain conditions.
• Ability to successfully complete the required skiing or snowboarding assessment for mountain access.

 

The expected pay range is $25.00/h - $28.60/h. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
