Description: Facility is a 123-bed surgical center with 3 operating rooms. It has a trauma level III designation. The center functions as a Primary Stroke Center. COVID vaccination is required for all staff. Patient types include inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room cases. Common specialties include general surgery, gynecology, ENT, urology, orthopedics, podiatry, and vascular surgery. Pediatrics are typically seen with ENT, with cases occurring once per week, representing 5-10% of the case load. Experience with pediatric cases is preferred. Required skills for the RN include the ability to circulate in surgeries and make critical decisions independently. Collaboration and multi-tasking skills are essential. The RN must be adept at recognizing changes in patient situations that necessitate unanticipated interventions. Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) should have knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques and various types of surgical equipment. Support on the unit includes a Charge Nurse who does not take on an assignment, and a surgeon present during the day and on call after cases finish. Anesthesia personnel will be available for surgeries and are on call after cases. A surgery scheduler will work during the day, and an OR aid will assist in a secretarial capacity. The facility uses an electronic charting system. Floating to two other sites may occur, with a weekly schedule provided for assignments. Time off approvals will be managed through the supervisor. Holiday requirements include working one summer holiday and one winter holiday. On-call requirements include every sixth weekend from Friday afternoon through Monday morning, and one night per week with a required response time of 30 minutes. Scrub colors for procedures will be provided.
