Age‑Specific Responsibility Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients in the assigned department. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development, assess data, and interpret information needed to identify each patient’s age‑specific needs and provide the required care per department policies and procedures. Summary Assumes full responsibility for evaluating patient need for physical therapy, plans and executes individual treatment programs in accordance with the State of Michigan licensure and PT scope of practice, and keeps treatment skills upgraded through continuing education, evidence‑based research, and program development. Performs duties in alignment with the program’s strategic objectives and goals. Essential Job Responsibilities Provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of license, certification, or registration and as required by law and regulation. Evaluates patient condition and establishes treatment goals in collaboration with the patient, family, and treatment team. Develops written treatment plans and administers treatment per goals, delegating responsibilities to assistants and technicians as appropriate. Re‑evaluates patient status, revises treatment plans, and reviews updated goals with patient and family. Assesses need for medical equipment, orders, and evaluates equipment, providing instruction to patient, family, and health‑care workers. Participates in discharge planning with patient, family, community support/services, and environmental considerations. Demonstrates competence in relevant software and hardware required for job responsibilities. Documents patient status and progress through evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries per internal/external standards and reimbursement guidelines. Communicates with interdisciplinary team members to integrate physical therapy into overall patient care. Participates in conferences and discussions, exchanging written records with other team members. Instructs patient and family in physical therapy procedures, including written instructions. Attends meetings and in‑services as designated. Follows all hospital policy and procedures, including patient confidentiality and infection control. Meets or exceeds program productivity expectations. Provides discipline‑specific coverage, following cross‑training, within the Mary Free Bed system as requested. Adheres to the Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior when working with patients, coworkers, and community members. Supports program operations as assigned. Participates in orientation and training of new staff. Serves as clinical instructor for physical therapy students, supervising, teaching, and evaluating student skills; communicates with universities regarding student performance. Participates in program development and/or research activities as assigned. Meets or exceeds clinical outcome collection and performance/improvement goals established by department leadership. Essential Job Qualifications Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) program. Licensure required in all U.S. states and territories where the therapist practices, per individual state laws. Maintain BLS certification to meet department/program protocols.
