Agency Overview: Ohio Investigative Unit Enforces Ohio's alcohol, tobacco, and SNAP fraud laws. OIU agents are sworn peace officers responsible for enforcing criminal violations that occur in relation to their investigative duties.
Job Description: Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio Investigative Unit Positions will be filled at multiple locations including: Athens, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Toledo. Work Hours: 8 - 10 hour shifts. Hours subject to the needs of the organization. Working days and hours may vary and may be required to travel overnight. Subject to call back. A sample weekly schedule may consist of Wednesday through Saturday, Wednesday 8am – 6pm, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 5pm – 3am. Unit 2 Contract; 55.05 Step Movement An employee shall receive a step increase upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period. Movement from one (1) step to another after probation shall occur after one (1) year of service following the completion of probation in the classification if performance has been satisfactory. What You'll Do as an Enforcement Agent: Independently or under general supervision, plans & conducts covert & overt criminal &/or administrative investigations (i.e., persons, residences, clubs, associations, bars, stores & illegal businesses, as well as areas around them) for violations pertaining to Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Administrative Code, & federal regulations regarding liquor control, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) & tobacco; Utilizes under cover identity &/or state enforcement vehicle & a variety of electronic devices (i.e., audio, visual, photographic, etc.) to conduct operations & covert surveillance; Interviews witnesses, victims &/or suspects in custodial & non-custodial situations; Plans, prepares, obtains, & executes search warrants at businesses, residences, vehicles, &/or digital devices; Makes arrests &/or prepares & issues administrative violation notices; Transports arrested suspects to custodial facilities (i.e., county & city jails); Collects, records, & safeguards evidence which can include counting & making inventory of large sums of cash, debit/benefit cards, guns, &/or drugs; Researches criminal & civil records online or in person; Requests &/or serves grand jury subpoenas for records & reviews records to determines evidentiary value; Prepares & submits evidence for forensic examination; Drafts & submits reports of investigations to supervisors for eventual submission to various prosecutors or the Ohio Attorney General's Office; Utilizes case management system to document activities, statements, intelligence, property, evidence & reports; Receives & serves Orders of the Liquor Control Commission regarding Ohio licensed establishments; Testifies in municipal, state &/or federal courts of law & before various commissions & state agencies (i.e., Ohio Liquor Control, Casino Control, & Ohio Lottery Commission; Establishes & maintains positive working relationships with other law enforcement agencies & works cooperatively on joint investigations &/or multi-jurisdictional task forces; Responds to calls for service from the general public &/or local, state, & federal law enforcement agencies (e.g., assist agencies with complex covert & overt investigations & operations; collects & analyzes computer generated data as it relates to ongoing investigations or to detect potential violations within their scope of authority; provides guidance to Ohio law enforcement agencies regarding licensed & unlicensed establishments &/or other subjects in violation of Ohio liquor, gambling, SNAP & tobacco laws; prepares & issues administrative citations on behalf of Ohio law enforcement agencies when a violation has been reported); Coordinates operations with outside law enforcement personnel, victim advocate groups & local court systems.
Possible disqualifiers: Recently used any drug of abuse that was not prescribed by a physician; recently used marijuana; ever sold or established a pattern of abuse of any felony drug of abuse; pleaded guilty or no contest to, or had a conviction for, driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs within the past five years or more than one charge ever;
