Responsibilities also include air monitoring during asbestos abatement projects, preparing reports, maintaining and calibrating equipment, and participating in quality control programs. Depending on experience, technicians may assist under direct supervision, work independently on complex projects, or lead teams and manage large-scale assessments. We offer opportunities to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and advance your career.Hazardous Building Material Assessments: Perform or assist with assessments of asbestos, lead-based paint, and other hazardous materials on job sites, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.Air Monitoring and Sampling: Conduct regulatory air monitoring during asbestos abatement projects, including personal and area exposure assessments.Reporting and Documentation: Prepare accurate field reports and client data summaries, ranging from basic documentation to complex analysis, depending on experience level.Equipment Maintenance and Calibration: Maintain, calibrate, and manage monitoring equipment to ensure proper functionality and adherence to quality control programs.Team Coordination and Quality Control: Collaborate with project managers and technicians, participate in quality control programs, and, for senior-level roles, lead project teams and oversee large-scale assessments.Experience shifting work hours based on project demands and weather, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime (paid at time and a half). Occasional travel to support other offices is covered with per diem and lodging.About You:All Experience Levels:Associate Technician: just starting - training is providedTechnician I: 1+ years of relevant experience, OR equivalent experience, with an associate degree in a related fieldTechnician II: 3+ years of relevant experience, OR equivalent experience, with an associate degree in a related fieldTechnician III: 5+ years of relevant experience. Experience in overseeing and mentoring junior staff, a plusAssociate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, a plusIndustry-related certifications:Asbestos Inspector/Air Sampler, strongly preferredLead Inspector or Risk AssessorOSHA HAZWOPER 40hrAttention to detail and good communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language Adequate mechanical/equipment operation skills necessary to calibrate and adjust a light microscopeEffective math skills necessary to perform asbestos sample analysisValid U.S. driver's license or an International Driving Permit (IDP) valid for driving in the United States, with an acceptable driving recordAbility to safely operate a company-assigned vehicle, including trucks and SUVWillingness to complete a background check, driving record check and drug screen upon offer of employmentThe understanding of a fluctuating schedule and interest in occasional travelYou Are Willing and Able to:Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as:Working the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditionsWalking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially long periodsRoutinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)Working outside of normal business hours when necessaryGrow With Us:At S&ME, your career growth matters.
