Job Title: Assembly Technician Job Description The Assembly Technician assembles and tests a variety of moderately complex lab equipment and related products in a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on producing high-quality assemblies that meet customer specifications and delivery schedules while following detailed mechanical and electrical documentation. The technician uses a range of tools and test equipment, performs minor mechanical modifications, and actively supports continuous improvement efforts in productivity and cost reduction. Responsibilities Assemble and test a variety of moderately complex lab equipment and products to meet customer quality standards and on-time delivery requirements. Perform cable and harness assembly, first‑stage sub‑assembly, and base‑level quality functions as needed. Work on products that contain mechanical components, motor systems, electrical wiring, and multiple part numbers. Use mechanical skills, hand and power tools, mechanical and electronic tools, test equipment, assembly fixtures, and inspection measurement equipment to perform assembly and test tasks. Interpret and follow mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics, engineering orders, assembly routes, test specifications, customer requirements, and quality directives. Produce, inspect, and verify assemblies to ensure they conform to product specifications and customer or industry standards. Perform soldering, wiring, and electrical assembly tasks in accordance with customer and industry requirements. Carry out minor mechanical modifications such as drilling, tapping, grinding, and related operations to prepare or adjust components. Select appropriate procedures, techniques, tools, and equipment for each assembly and test operation. Perform basic mathematical calculations to support measurement, layout, and verification activities during assembly and testing. Document work as required using basic computer applications and systems, including recording test results and assembly data. Observe and follow all safety rules, procedures, and guidelines while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work area. Actively contribute product and process improvement suggestions to increase productivity and reduce costs. Collaborate with supervisors and team members under general supervisory guidance to resolve issues and ensure smooth workflow. Perform other related responsibilities as assigned within the manufacturing environment. Essential Skills Minimum of 3 years of related assembly experience in a manufacturing environment. Proficiency in small parts assembly, including handling and assembling detailed mechanical and electrical components. Strong mechanical skills, including experience working with mechanical components, motor systems, and related assemblies. Experience in electrical assembly and wiring, including reading and working from electrical schematic diagrams. Ability to perform cable and harness assembly and first‑stage sub‑assemblies. Proficient blueprint reading skills, including the ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, route sheets, and test specifications. Ability to use hand and power tools, mechanical and electronic tools, test equipment, assembly fixtures, and inspection measurement equipment. Capability to perform minor mechanical modifications such as drilling, tapping, and grinding. Good computer skills, including basic data entry and use of manufacturing‑related software or systems. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations to support measurement and assembly tasks. Effective verbal and written communication skills for following instructions and documenting work. Ability to lift approximately 25–50 pounds on occasion as required by the role. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous assembly experience in medical device manufacturing is preferred. Experience in aerospace or electrical industries is also considered valuable. Familiarity with customer and industry standards for soldering and assembly. Ability to interpret and follow engineering orders, assembly routes, test specifications, and quality directives. Demonstrated ability to select appropriate procedures, techniques, tools, and equipment for different assembly tasks. Attention to detail and a strong focus on quality and accuracy in all work performed. Willingness to contribute ideas for product and process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
