Description

American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for a Med/Surg unit requiring at least 1 year of experience and an active WV or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 18 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
• Common diagnoses include COPD, CHF, total joints, hysterectomies, and general post-op cases
• No drip titration required on this unit
• Telemetry monitored on the unit, with SCU RN reading strips
• Nurse aide ratios range from 1:6 to 1:9 depending on staffing
• RT equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP for patients with established home use
• Uses MEDITECH EMR
• Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts from 7p-7a
• Every other weekend required (Fri, Sat, Sun)
• Holiday rotation required alongside permanent staff
• No call or standby requirement
• No floating required
• Charge nurse available all shifts; house supervisor also available

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• BSN not required
• Travel experience preferred, though training provided for unfamiliar tasks

Additional Information

• Unit-specific orientation includes a first day of unit familiarization followed by two 12-hour shifts
• No specific scrub color or dress code required
• Scheduler attempts to accommodate requests and provide one block of time off per month
• First-time travelers may be considered given willingness to train on unfamiliar tasks
• Returning travelers must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying to any WVU Medicine facility
• Travelers are limited to a maximum of 1 year working within WVU facilities before requiring a 2-year break
• Local candidates are not accepted; radius rule requires candidates live more than 50 miles from the facility
