Senior Staff Software Engineer - Full Stack

Role Description

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack, you will define the technical architecture and engineering direction that powers Button’s core products at an organizational scale. This is a hands-on role where you will:

• Define full stack architectures for large scale systems and drive their adoption across multiple teams.
• Stay hands on: regularly write high-quality production code, build proofs of concept, and own zero to one projects end to end.
• Dive into projects across different teams and domains, contributing quickly and meaningfully.
• Own business critical technical problems with high ambiguity and ensure delivery against Button’s most important product goals.
• Apply machine learning where it creates real product value and lead the work of taking ML from prototype to production.
• Partner with Product leadership to connect engineering roadmaps to company strategy.
• Raise the bar across the organization on engineering best practices and operational health.
• Develop senior engineers into technical leaders through mentorship and feedback.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building production systems at scale, with excellent coding skills.
• A track record of taking zero to one products or systems end to end.
• Deep full stack expertise across UIs, APIs, backend services, and data infrastructure.
• Strong fluency in JavaScript and TypeScript (React, NodeJS) and Go, plus strong experience with Python.
• A strong command of web development fundamentals and excellent API design instincts.
• Experience with machine learning and productionizing ML systems in Python.
• The ability to operate at high ambiguity and drive execution to outcomes that matter.
• Experience owning reliability across teams and improving systemic operational health.
• Deep experience with relational databases, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure (AWS).
• A history of developing senior engineers into leaders and building technical consensus.
