POSITION: AAoA Cook Senior

SALARY: $20.34-$24.86, per hour

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

LOCATION: Nespelem, WA

Basic Functions: This is a Non-Exempt position. Prepares and cooks a variety of foods and bakery goods for senior citizens in a congregate setting that includes home delivered meals to home bound clients weekly. Prepares and cooks food in sufficient quantity according to menu for number of persons to be served daily. Other duties involve ordering food, supplies, and equipment. Responsible for maintaining workplace for standards of sanitation and cleanliness, maintaining compliance with USDA Nutrition Standards and State of Washington Nutrition Standards, and inventory of foods monthly. Prepares monthly menus in advance and submits to the registered dietitian for review and approval. Maintains daily records of meals served, daily records of transportation units, daily records of client services for data entry to the SAMS systems. Submits donations collected by the senior meal center to Area Agency on Aging office for submittal to accounts receivable. Ensures preventative maintenance is performed and recorded on vans monthly by senior meal center van driver. Maintains a financial cuff accounting for food and food supply expenditures to ensure allocations of funds are not over spent.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training:

  • Requires a High School Diploma
  • Requires two (2) years, successful paid work experience with elderly/senior citizens.
  • Requires two (2) years paid experience in food preparation for large groups, or completion of vocational training in food preparation, including coordinating meals and ordering supplies, and management/supervising.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires supervising all cooking operations and kitchen staff
  • Plans, prepares and serves nutritionally balanced, cost effective in quantity amounts on scheduled days for district according to USDA Performance Standards
  • Meals are prepared from quarterly menu cycles approved by the tribal nutritionist. All meals must meet the 1/3 RDA. Menus are to be posted in conspicuous location for public view
  • Requires knowledge of/skill at working to precise measurements; using arithmetic to measure and estimate material quantities and record keeping.
  • Work from written menus/recipes and adapt standard recipes in preparing dishes for a varying number of people
  • Prepare meals for special diets. Maintains contact with and accepts referrals from AAOA case management staff members, and other health program staff to identify clients who require special diets.
  • Responsible for maintaining daily records of the accountability of monetary donations by eligible participants; collecting of money for meals to non-eligible participants
  • Responsible for the security, accountability and order of program good, equipment and supplies, maintaining records of any other information requested by AAOA management.
  • Assure proper storage of all food items and maintain inventories of daily records of food & purchases, maintaining daily records of actual foods served for each meal.
  • Maintains clean and sanitary conditions in meal site facility.
  • Assurance compliance with contract/program standards/polices, which are required under Federal, State and/or Tribal guidelines.
  • Maintaining daily records of names of individuals who received a meal in a congregate setting and the names of individual who received a home delivered meal; other required information on a daily meal participant sheet,
  • Must have a good understanding with senior citizens, have patience and establish and sustain working relationships with clients, staff, other program/agency staff and the public.
  • Participate in periodic training as requested by Area Agency on Aging management Site supervisor: supervise the assistant cook and van driver/handy person, sign and approve leave slips and time sheets.
  • Requires ability to stay calm during emergencies or danger.
  • Requires ability to work independently and follow line of authority.
  • Requires ability to establish, and maintain effective/cooperative-working relationships with others (peers, clientele/public).
  • Requires ability to read, understand and work from written menus/recipes and to adapt standard recipes to preparing dishes for a varying number of people.
  • Requires ability to prepare meals for special diets.
  • Requires physical fitness clearance by medical doctor's examination must be provided at time of interview and verify that applicant can lift 50 lbs. (physical fitness is included in annual job performance evaluations.)
  • Requires ability to operate and maintain standard cooking appliances/equipment, lifting and moving heavy objects, using hands, arms, and fingers to handle tools to operate machines.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and be eligible for the Tribes' Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
