Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Qualifications Education/Certification Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college for university Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI) Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of agricultural science, livestock management, and technology Knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to supervise student agricultural experience projects and practices Ability to manage classroom and activity budgets Ability to operate and transport equipment, including livestock trailers Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to manage program facilities and student activities Experience Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies Oversee Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP), including assisting students in selecting and managing projects and supervising the school farm. Serve as advisor to the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter, including planning and conducting leadership, citizenship, cooperative, career development, and competitive activities for students at local, regional, and state levels. Assist with planning and delivery of adult education and community programs related to agricultural science and technology. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s). Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Agricultural Program Leadership (SAEP & FFA) Oversee the Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP), ensuring all students have equitable access to agricultural projects. Assist students in selecting, acquiring, and managing agricultural projects. Support students in participation in at least 3 prospect shows a year prior to major show participation. Provide guidance and logistical support, including evaluation of animals and assistance with procurement and transportation when necessary. Serve as advisor to FFA chapter. Ensure all FFA activities, officer elections, and leadership opportunities are conducted fairly, ethically, and without bias. Attend a majority of FFA-sponsored events, including leadership development events, competitions, and meetings. Livestock Show & Event Responsibilities Must attend and actively support students during major livestock shows, including but not limited to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and district-hosted events such as the Alief ISD Prospect Show. Provide supervision and support for students participating in livestock exhibitions, competitions, and related activities. Assist with preparation, validation, and eligibility requirements for livestock shows. May be required to be on‑call outside of contract hours to support student agricultural projects, including animal care, emergencies, and time‑sensitive needs. Extended Contract & Stipend Duties Perform duties beyond the standard contract period as required for program success. Complete a minimum of 200 hours outside of contract time annually to qualify for stipend compensation. Hours may include student project supervision, livestock shows, competitions, travel, after‑school practices, and weekend events. Student Growth and Development Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Encourage participation in leadership, competitions, and career readiness opportunities. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus administrator. Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district. Classroom Management and Organization Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Accompany and supervise students at all off‑campus activities including contests, workshops, and field trips associated with the agricultural science program and FFA. Oversee maintenance of program‑related facilities and equipment including the school agricultural complex. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Transportation & Equipment Responsibilities Demonstrate knowledge of and confidence in operating a district vehicle and livestock trailer. Transport students, animals, and equipment safely in accordance with district policies and procedures. Fulfill transportation responsibilities for veterinary visits, conventions, livestock animal procurement, livestock shows, and CDE/LDE competitions, all of which can occur locally or outside the city. Communication Maintain timely, professional communication with students, parents, staff, and community partners. Clearly communicate expectations, deadlines, and requirements for participation in agricultural programs and events. Program Management and Compliance Follow all district procedures related to agricultural programs, including livestock validation, tagging, and eligibility requirements. Adhere to all deadlines and ensure students are informed and prepared. Follow and enforce barn agreements, officer contracts, and other documented agreements. Maintain accurate records, inventories, and documentation. Ensure consistency and alignment with district‑wide agricultural program expectations. Budget and Inventory Develop and administer a budget based on documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely. Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds. Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets related to the program. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Other Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief. Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise assigned teacher paraprofessionals. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of teachers and the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T‑TESS). Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals. Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting. Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head. Lifting: Frequent heavy lifting and carrying (up to 45 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over); may lift and move agriculture equipment and animals. Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district wide and state travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors; work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold, and inclement weather), humidity, and prolonged sunlight; exposure to biological hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; work around moving objects or vehicles; work on uneven or slippery surfaces; work around animals; may work alone.
