Position Summary

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for providing care, supervision, safety, training, and support to individuals receiving services through the Adult Day Training Program. Support is individualized and goal-driven to promote independence, community inclusion, and quality of life.

This position is classified as an Essential Worker Role and requires flexibility, teamwork, and continuity of services during emergencies. The DSP reports to the Director of Enrichment Programs, Assistant Director of Enrichment Programs, and/or Team Leader and may provide services to any individual supported by Dreams With Wings.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and model the mission, vision, core values, and professional standards of Dreams With Wings in all interactions.

- Provide individualized, person-centered support tailored to each individual’s needs, preferences, goals, and support plans.

- Promote dignity, choice, rights, self-determination, and self-advocacy.

- Serve as a mandated reporter by recognizing and reporting any suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation in accordance with agency policy and state regulations.

- Participate in the Annual Dreams with Wings vacation for the individuals.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Person-centered Support

- Assist individuals in developing and working toward personal goals that reduce dependency and increase independence.

- Encourage constructive conflict resolution and positive social interactions.

- Support individuals in achieving meaningful outcomes identified in their service plans.

Program Participation & Community Inclusion

- Lead and actively participate in daily circle time and scheduled activities.

- Plan and organize daily activities aligned with individual goals and program outcomes.

- Support community participation, volunteering, leisure activities, and social relationships.

- Encourage maximum engagement and inclusion during group activities.

Health, Safety & Personal Care

- Ensure the safety and well-being of individuals at all times.

- Follow all health, safety, and behavior support plans.

- Provide personal care assistance as needed, including ambulation, grooming, hygiene, dressing, feeding, toileting, bathing, meal preparation, laundry, and housekeeping.

- Provide physical assistance, including lifting (minimum 50 lbs), as required.

- Respond appropriately to behavioral challenges, medical needs, or emergencies.

Medication & Medical Support

- Administer medications only if properly medication-administration trained.

- Support self-administration of medications when appropriate.

- Accurately document medication administration in Therap (MAR) in accordance with agency policy.

Documentation & Compliance

- Complete all required daily documentation in Therap accurately and within required timeframes.

- Maintain attendance records, sign-in/out sheets, tracking sheets, and required DDID documentation.

- Ensure documentation reflects daily progress toward individual goals.

- Operate in compliance with all state regulations and Dreams With Wings policies.

- Attend all required training and staff meetings.

Program Operations

- Maintain cleanliness of assigned areas, shared spaces, and agency vehicles.

- Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly to supervisors.

Support continuity of services during emergencies, staffing shortages, or schedule changes.

- Participate in vacations and Dreams With Wings-sponsored events as assigned.

- Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations.

- Communicate clearly and respectfully in verbal and written interactions.

- Help create a positive environment where each person’s dignity, choices, and cultural background are respected.

Requirements:

QualificationsMinimum Requirements

- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

- Must be at least 21 years of age with one year of direct experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities or autism.

- Ability to lift individuals as required.

- CPR/First Aid certification required.

- Annual TB test required.

- Valid driver’s license and current auto insurance required.

Work Schedule

- Full-time or part-time.

- Non-exempt

- Hourly

- Evening and weekend hours may be required as scheduled

- Be available to support services during community emergencies, including working at alternate locations when required

Preferred Experience

- Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or Autism.

- Valid driver’s license and proof of current automobile insurance preferred.

Occupational Exposure

- This position may involve routine exposure to blood or bodily fluids.
