Education Coordinator

The Education Department is seeking a motivated candidate with filmmaking or youth management experience, and an interest in education and film/media literacy to support and enhance our year round education and family programming. Our Education team serves more than 15,000 students and teachers every year, from kindergarten through college, to develop media literacy, cultural awareness, global understanding and a lifelong appreciation of cinema. SFFILM Education aims to cultivate students’ imaginations, prepare them for filmmaking careers, and empower them to succeed in a media-saturated world. The coordinator provides hands‑on education and administrative support to the Education Department and assists with all Education programming at SFFILM, including helping to lead SFFILM’s annual summer Youth Filmmakers Camp. The ideal candidate will have experience in both educational and film settings and an affinity for providing cultural experiences to young people in the Bay Area. Similarly, this role will require a comfort with leading both in‑person and written outreach initiatives to educators and families, while bringing strong attention to detail and data management to Education program tracking. Application review begins August 4, 2026 and preferred start date is Sept 13, 2026. This is a fulltime, hourly role with a salary range of $23 – $24 per hour. SFFILM currently supports a hybrid‑remote schedule, with an average of 2‑3 days per week in the San Francisco offices, as well as time onsite throughout the Bay Area supporting SFFILM events. Responsibilities Support the execution of all SFFILM Youth and Education programs under the supervision of the Director of Education and the Education Manager. Manage school visits during Schools at Doc Stories and Schools at the Festival. Including the scheduling of filmmakers and teachers and facilitating conversations between filmmakers and students in classrooms across the Bay Area. Work with Education Manager to oversee the updating and collection of impact metrics for all education programs, including but not limited to: number of programs presented, attendance, demographics, and qualitative assessments. Support the maintenance of Education’s evaluation work and surveying systems, working with SFFILM’s Communications team to unify Education‑surveying projects with org‑wide data collection standards. Assist with pre‑screening of potential films for Education programming. Expand the Education team’s outreach, including researching and making recommendations for new school contacts and community partners. Support integration of SFFILM’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Accessibility efforts into Education’s programming and offerings. In collaboration with Education staff, assist in managing temporary education staff, interns and volunteers. Support the hiring and management of teaching artists, and guest artists for camp. Work closely with SFFILM’s Artist Development team to create cohesive programming within the Youth Filmmakers Camp. Implementation of Youth Filmmakers Camp including: instructor hiring and management, outreach and camper recruitment, curriculum development, equipment needs, venue partner logistics and communication, parent and participant communication and follow‑up. Serve as lead or co‑lead teaching artist/instructor for annual Youth Filmmakers Camp summer program Assist with payments to vendors, partners, and monthly expense reconciliation for the department. Provide administrative support to the entire department including meeting schedules, note‑taking, and file maintenance. Manage overall Education data tracking, collection, outreach, and reporting calendar. This role requires occasional weekend and evening work during special events. Provide additional program support to the Education Department as needed. Experience/Skills Required Background in arts education, filmmaking instruction and/or K‑12 education. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects in a fast‑paced working environment. Understanding and appreciation of media literacy and the use of film as an educational resource. Experience teaching in classrooms or non‑traditional learning environments is a plus. Experience with film production is a significant plus. Experience in lesson planning and building curriculum strongly preferred. Excellent computer skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Zoom, Basecamp, FileMaker Pro, MailChimp, or Formstack is a plus. Experience with data analytics and program evaluation is a plus. Self‑directed with the ability to take initiative and anticipate actions needed Interest in film festivals or film organizations. Confidence working with students of all ages, K‑12. Must be able to pass a LiveScan and provide results from a TB test. Experience using DSLRs or professional cameras, Premiere Pro and other software editing systems is a plus. Knowledge of SFUSD and the broader Bay Area education community is a plus.
