VP, Cloud Platform Engineering Leader (New York)

Your expertise fuels innovation, agility, and growth — driving the company's success.As the Cloud Platform Engineering Leader, you will lead a team of engineers devoted to creating highly resilient hybrid cloud platforms to support NYL’s business operations. The platforms include distributed systems, virtualization, public cloud AWS/Azure), and Kubernetes. In this role you will drive our multiyear strategy to ensure our platforms are evergreen and evolving to support ongoing NYL modernization programs. Stakeholder engagement is a critical success factor.A successful leader is a close partner with NYL Technology Leaders and is ahead of the demand for modern self-provisioned infrastructure as code (IaC) platforms. A comprehensive GenAI Strategy is essential for delivering capabilities rapidly while reducing operating costs. We’re aggressively modernizing our core platforms which requires active leadership and the ability to transform our infrastructure services to leverage public cloud and micro services architectures.Define the infrastructure technology roadmap that includes deliverables focused on the continued improvement of the supported solutions, and empowering a DevOps culture through the use of automated platform capabilities underpinning customer-focused product engineering and development.Primary responsibilities:Lead the engineering teams responsible for core cloud infrastructure, compute, networking, container orchestration, and internal platform servicesDefine and drive the vision, architecture, and roadmap for a self-service, secure, and highly available cloud platformEnsure a high standard of operational excellence through automation, monitoring, observability, incident management, and capacity planningCollaborate with security and compliance teams to build platforms that are secure by design and meet regulatory standardsPartner with Developer Experience and SRE to streamline the development-to-deployment lifecycle and improve developer velocityLead modernization efforts such as infrastructure-as-code, service mesh adoption, multi-cloud strategy, or internal platform APIsRecruit, mentor, and develop a world-class team of platform engineers and engineering leadersManage the Cloud Engineering, Storage, and Compute environmentServe as a thought leader, driving the AWS architecture and strategyExecute successful program delivery by defining objectives, aligning resources, leveraging GenAI, and fostering collaboration and contributions across teams to ensure impactful outcomesLeverage Kubernetes (AWS EKS) technology to deploy, install, upgrade, patch, and maintain resilient, reliable solutions for developing, testing, securing, and shipping software applications to productionEvolve infrastructure to be deployed via pipelines whereby cloud services, IaC code, base images, yaml files are integrated to create full stack patterns raising the level of infrastructure abstraction to the point where software developers focused on business capabilitiesActively engage in Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, backlog grooming, and performance metric tracking to ensure continuous delivery of high-quality productsImprove NYL Cyber Security through efficient processes to detect and remediate vulnerabilities and non-standard configurations in infrastructure servicesBuild and maintain strong relationships to promote cross-tech contributions focused on improving developer experienceReview monthly service management and consumption metrics for your products and services and address any deviations or SLA deficienciesMaintain and enhance the product and service catalog for infrastructure services including monthly updates to consumers providing advice on cost control leversBenchmark your product per unit costs annually to maintain competitive and accurate pricing.Business & Technology Skills:Trusted and respected as a thought leader who can influence and persuade business and IT leaders and IT development teams to adopt infrastructure shared servicesHighly collaborative and effective in building guilds and collaboration channels which raise the organizations level of effectiveness in software developmentDisplays empathy for the software development community and champions continuous improvement to optimize the end-to-end software delivery processAI first approach to developer experienceQualifications:Bachelor’s degree computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, system analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experienceOne or more AWS certificationsExpert in AWS Well Architected FrameworkIndepth knowledge of API development and standardsPractical experience in developing and deploying ML/AI driven developer experiencesIn depth technical knowledge of Kubernetes, AWS Services, Terraform, and one or more software development frameworksAt least five years of leadership experienceAt least five years of software development experience10 years' experience building and supporting AWS cloud services in large enterprise environments​Pay TransparencySalary Range: $250,000 - $300,000 Overtime eligible: Exempt Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes Sales bonus eligible: No Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
