Job Description

The Medical Assistant – Float provides comprehensive clinical and administrative support across multiple clinic locations. This role focuses on rooming patients, documenting clinical findings, supporting providers during visits, coordinating diagnostic and laboratory services, and ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients. The position offers strong internal growth opportunities into specialized clinics, chairside support roles, lead/trainer positions, and other departments.

Responsibilities

• Room patients promptly and accurately, ensuring a professional and welcoming experience.
• Document clinical findings clearly and thoroughly in the electronic medical record system.
• Provide patient education on treatment plans, procedures, and general health information.
• Deliver clear surgical instructions and pre- and post-procedure guidance to patients and families.
• Assist providers with in-room scribing by entering real-time visit notes and orders into the medical record.
• Offer direct physician support during patient encounters and minor procedures as needed.
• Order laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures according to provider directives and clinical protocols.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records, ensuring all documentation meets clinical and regulatory standards.
• Schedule patient appointments and follow up on referrals, ensuring efficient patient flow.
• Track laboratory and diagnostic results and communicate relevant information to clinical staff.
• Monitor patients for changes in condition during visits and promptly report concerns to clinical staff.
• Support patient care activities such as preparing exam rooms, assisting with basic clinical tasks, and ensuring patient comfort.
• Ensure exam rooms and clinical areas remain clean, safe, and well-organized at all times.
• Promote a welcoming and respectful environment for patients, families, and colleagues.
• Float between designated clinic locations as needed to support patient care and clinic operations.

Essential Skills

• Experience as a Medical Assistant, including rooming patients and supporting direct patient care.
• Ability to accurately document clinical findings in an electronic medical record system, such as Epic.
• Strong patient care skills with a focus on professionalism, empathy, and clear communication.
• Ability to provide patient education and surgical instructions in an understandable and reassuring manner.
• Competence in ordering laboratory and diagnostic procedures according to provider instructions.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate medical records and tracking lab results.
• Ability to monitor patient condition during visits and promptly report changes to clinical staff.
• Capacity to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Ability to work primarily at the Appleton clinic with flexibility to work at the Neenah clinic when needed.
• Willingness to float between locations and adapt to varying provider and clinic needs.
• Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential preferred.
• 1 or more years of Medical Assistant experience for candidates without formal education or certification, or completion of clinicals for recent graduates without prior experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential is preferred.
• Recent graduates who have successfully completed clinical rotations are encouraged to apply, even without prior work experience.
• At least 1 year of Medical Assistant experience is required for applicants without formal education or certification.
• Familiarity with Epic or similar electronic medical record systems is advantageous.
• Interest in internal growth opportunities, including roles in allergy clinic support, chairside support for specific providers, lead/trainer positions, and departments such as Audiology, Triage, Surgery, and Scheduling.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and patient focus.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working with providers, nurses, and administrative staff.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, Monday through Friday position with standard hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role is primarily based at the Neenah clinic, and candidate must be able to float to Oshkosh clinic as needed. The environment is a busy outpatient clinical setting where Medical Assistants use electronic medical record systems, such as Epic, and standard clinical equipment to support patient care. The workplace emphasizes cleanliness, safety, and a welcoming atmosphere for patients and staff. Team members collaborate closely with providers and clinical staff, and there are clear pathways for internal growth into specialized clinics, chairside support roles, lead/trainer positions, and other departments such as Audiology, Triage, Surgery, and Scheduling. Professional clinical attire is expected to maintain a polished and patient-focused appearance.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Neenah, WI.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
