Program Manager, Experiential Learning and Student Success, Honors College

Context of Job:

The Experiential Learning and Student Success Program Manager provides leadership for initiatives that support Honors students, primarily beyond the first year, as they pursue transformative educational experiences and prepare for life after graduation. The Program Manager develops and coordinates programs that encourage participation in high-impact practices, including undergraduate research, creative activities, civic and community engagement, global learning, and internships. The Program Manager also connects students to leadership experiences and professional development opportunities that will strengthen their career readiness. The Program Manager also leads assessment and reporting efforts related to student engagement, learning outcomes, and post-graduation success.

The Program Manager works closely with the Coordinator of First-Year Experience and Community Engagement to create an integrated student development pathway that supports Honors students throughout their collegiate journey. More specifically, the Coordinator of First-Year Experience and Community Engagement takes the lead in helping students find their place in the Honors community (i.e., belonging and transition), while this position takes the lead in helping students leverage that community into meaningful experiences to ensure successful post-graduation outcomes (i.e., purpose and preparation).

Major Responsibilities

Student Engagement

• Develop and oversee co-curricular programs that promote student engagement, leadership development, career readiness, and academic success for Honors students.
• Develop and manage a variety of programs and resources that connect students (with a special focus on those beyond the first year) with high-impact educational practices such as undergraduate research, creative activities, civic engagement, community-based learning, global experiences, internships, leadership opportunities, and other experiential learning activities.
• Develop strategies to increase student participation in Honors College programs, events, and activities.
• Advise students on pathways to maximize their Honors experience through experiential learning and professional development.
• Monitor student needs and emerging trends related to student engagement and career readiness and recommend improvements to programs and services.
• Manage Honors enrichment awards that support student participation in high-impact practices and experiential learning opportunities.
• Advise and support relevant student organizations and student-led initiatives affiliated with the Honors College.
• Support the Coordinator of First-Year Experience and Community Engagement in developing and implementing programs and community engagement initiatives in the Honors Living Learning Community (LLC).
• Collaborate with the Coordinator of First-Year Experience and Community Engagement to ensure continuity of programming and student support across all years.
• Collaborate with faculty, academic departments, community partners, alumni, and employers to expand opportunities for student engagement.
• Serve as the liaison with the Undergraduate Research Program (URP) and the Office of National Fellowships (ONF) to ensure student engagement with them.

Career Readiness

• Serve as the Honors liaison with the Career Center to facilitate career readiness programs and initiatives.
• Work with the Career Center and other partners across campus to coordinate workshops, mentoring programs, networking events, and professional development initiatives that enhance career readiness and postgraduate success.
• Work with the Career Center to help students develop short- and long-term career strategies, job/internship search strategies, interview skill development, resume and cover letter critiques, offer decisions, compensation negotiation, effective networking strategies, and other career-related topics.
• Work with colleagues across campus to identify and develop programs to assist students in preparing for graduate and professional schools.
• Manage the Honors LinkedIn page, including but not limited to accepting/declining invitations, posting new, relevant, and timely content, and re-posting things about Honors students that were highlighted at a University level.
• Support the management, administration, and data analysis of the Suitable platform, which includes collaborating with the consultants from Suitable.

Data Analysis and Outcomes Assessment

• Assist with data entry and analysis related to student engagement software.
• Lead the collection, analysis, and reporting of student participation, engagement, program evaluation, retention, graduation, and post-graduation success metrics.
• Implement and analyze student entrance and exit surveys.
• Develop and implement programs that help students articulate and communicate the value of their Honors and experiential learning experiences.
• Develop assessment plans and dashboards that support continuous improvement and strategic decision-making.

General Responsibilities

• Attend recruitment and other Honors events as needed.
• Support the Honors Student Services team during NSO as needed.
• Understand the Honors College co-curricular budget and work with the Business Administrator to manage expenses.
• Know and support the University’s academic and student conduct policies.
• Interpret University policies, procedures, and major requirements, and make appropriate use of referrals to professional services on campus.
• Participate in campus Student Life Programmers’ quarterly meetings.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience in student development and program implementation or comparable knowledge, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience working with college students in experiential learning, career development, undergraduate research, student success, honors education, or related areas.
• Experience working with undergraduate research, career readiness, leadership development, or experiential learning programs.
• Knowledge of high-impact educational practices and student success initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs and partnerships.
• Ability to plan, organize, and advertise a variety of student engagement events for Honors students.
• Ability to collect, analyze, and summarize data.
• Experience with assessment, program evaluation, or institutional research.
• Familiarity with data management and reporting tools.
• Ability to perform complex tasks and to prioritize multiple projects; coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events; and create, compose, and edit materials.
• Ability to work productively with a wide range of units across campus and in the community.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Demonstrated good judgment and critical thinking skills.
• Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the different needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
• Proficient skills with Microsoft and Google platforms, and the ability to learn new technology quickly.
