Opportunity Stanislaus is seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Finance and Operations to join our leadership team. This role is instrumental in advancing organizational sustainability, operational excellence, and financial integrity.
We are a mission-driven nonprofit committed to economic development and community impact. The Director will serve as a key business partner to executive leadership and the Board, ensuring strong fiscal stewardship and organizational alignment.
Position Overview
The Director of Finance and Operations is responsible for financial planning and fiscal management. This role leads fiscal administration and oversees accounting, grants management, human resources, payroll, budgeting, and financial reporting.
The Director maintains accurate and confidential financial records and actively participates as a member of the management team to support strategic decision-making.
What You’ll Do
Financial Management and Accounting
Develop, implement, and manage financial reporting systems with strong internal controls
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting
Lead monthly and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and audit preparation
Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Manage fixed assets, including grant-funded assets and inventory
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Financial Planning
Develop and manage organizational budgets and financial forecasts
Monitor operating budget, cash flow, and grant funding
Provide timely financial insights to executive leadership and the Board of Directors
Cash Management and Financial Operations
Oversee banking relationships and financial institution partnerships
Manage deposits, cash flow, and financial transactions across programs
Review accounts payable and receivable for accuracy and timeliness
Track and invoice investors, public entities, and program participants
Payroll and Benefits Administration
Manage payroll functions, including timekeeping and coordination with a Professional Employer Organization (PEO)
Oversee retirement plan administration and compliance
Grant and Compliance Management
Ensure compliance with grant requirements, including reporting and invoicing
Partner with auditors for annual IRS Form 990 and audit processes
Human Resources and Organizational Administration
Oversee recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, and employee relations
Support performance management and organizational development initiatives
Risk Management and Operations
Partner with executive leadership on risk management and compliance
Oversee facilities, procurement, and IT vendor relationships
Leadership and Representation
Represent the organization with stakeholders, community leaders, and partners
Provide financial strategy and insights to the Board of Directors
What You Bring
Strong executive presence with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
Exceptional organizational and time management capabilities
Ability to operate independently and manage competing priorities
High level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality
Proficiency in QuickBooks and accounting systems
Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe, and related tools)
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Understanding of business operations and nonprofit financial structures
Grant management experience preferred
Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, finance, accounting, economics, or related field
Minimum of five years of progressive experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment
Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial management
Experience with grant funding, compliance, and reporting.
