Job Summary Assist journeyman in the planning, layout, installation, testing and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, motors, equipment and control systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Key Responsibilities Learn to use appropriate hand tools (drill, screwdriver) and power tools (pipe threader, conduit bender) to assist the electrician in measuring, cutting, bending wire and conduit, drilling holes, pulling wiring, and positioning equipment. Perform minor repairs such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches. Maintain tools and equipment, keep supplies organized, and disassemble, repair, and reassemble defective electrical equipment such as motors. Load, transport, unload, and furnish the electrician with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies. Clean work area, restock supplies and materials, and help install related items according to plans and specifications. Participate in safety-related processes and programs, ensuring zero injuries and engaging with the work team to maintain safety. Identify and report hazards, use stop work authority as needed, and report accidents and near misses to supervisors. Participate in pre-job planning and safety discussions, eliminating identified hazards. Follow lockout/tag out procedures and attend site-specific training that outlines all required safety protocols. Use effective verbal and written communication skills, including rapid and accurate arithmetic with whole numbers and fractions. Listen to co-workers' suggestions and safety concerns, ask questions, and provide feedback. Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers, actively participating in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities. Produce quality work that meets the requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards. Read and understand plans and specifications, including one-line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, ladder diagrams, P&ID’s, and loop diagrams, visualizing two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions. Assist the journeyman in planning, layout, drilling, installing, and repairing electrical systems, learning to perform layout independently and inspecting installed equipment for hazards. Notify supervision of hazards, utilize stop work authority as needed, and inspect field conditions to identify problems and cost-saving measures. If certified to operate equipment, ensure construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, and in good working order, completing daily inspections. Comply with the company code of conduct and jobsite policies. Preferred Qualifications NCCER Construction Craft Laborer, NCCER Core Curriculum or equivalent Craft Training Program. Minimum Qualifications At least 2 years of experience working as an electrician or similar craft as a helper or a combination of work experience and training, with a working knowledge of electrical wiring, conduit, systems, equipment, and fixtures; testing electrical systems with appropriate tools; familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC); possession of all necessary licenses for the jurisdiction; ability to understand and follow directions; possession of all necessary tools; minimum age 18; completion of pre-employment onboarding requirements including background check, drug screening, and vehicle records search. Certifications NCCER Construction Craft Laborer, NCCER Core Curriculum or equivalent Craft Training Program. Work Environment / Physical Demands Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Maintain full range of motion and flexibility consistent with job duties. Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure. Perform repetitive movements. Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions. Work in cramped spaces and awkward positions. Work in very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures, with exposure to dust, wind, snow, rain, etc. Work in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions. Expose to uncomfortable sound levels. Work around hazardous equipment. Position considered a safety‑sensitive position.
