Department Description Our Labor and Delivery department consists of 10 labor/delivery/recovery rooms (LDRs), three operating rooms, three short stay/triage rooms, and three post‑anesthesia care unit (PACU) beds. We deliver approximately 5,000 babies per year. Job ID: LP_00016441-2655512 Job Description Job Summary The Clinical Nurse II is an RN who acts as a full partner on the health care team and consistently demonstrates safe practice within the organizational professional practice model. The Clinical Nurse II provides patient care through the nursing process, accepts accountability, and works across all patient ages. The role requires competencies in Patient and Family Centered Care, Evidence Based Practice and Research, Safety, Continuous Quality Improvement, Teamwork, Technology/Informatics, Professionalism, and Leadership. Essential Functions Employees must abide by all Joint Commission requirements, hospital policies, and service standards. Duties include clinical practice, education, safety, quality improvement, and leadership responsibilities as outlined below. Performs all functions of Clinical Nurse I Patient and Family Centered Care: recognizes patients as partners and provides compassionate, coordinated care that respects preferences, values, and needs. Manages complex patient care assignments appropriate to skill level. Participates in building consensus and resolving conflict. Sees the "big picture" and uses clinical experience to refine practice. Engages in problem solving to address complex issues regarding the delivery of safer, high‑quality, patient‑ and family‑centered care. Evidence Based Practice and Research: evaluates and integrates best current evidence with clinical expertise and patient/family preferences, generates clinical questions, searches and evaluates evidence, and applies findings to practice. Safety: minimizes risk of harm to patients, families, providers, and self through system effectiveness and individual performance, serves as resource for safety concerns, and participates in analyzing errors. Continuous Quality Improvement: utilizes data and QI methods to identify problems and opportunities, participates in design and evaluation of QI initiatives, and integrates them into individual care plans. Teamwork: engages in cooperation, coordination, and collaboration across inter‑ and intra‑professional teams, including virtual teams, and asserts personal perspective to support discussion. Technology/Informatics: utilizes appropriate information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making. Serves as resource for documentation and promotes safe, timely use of clinical systems. Professionalism: demonstrates commitment to lifelong learning, adheres to ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, participates in professional organizations, and fosters development of others. Leadership: collaborates and applies systems thinking for evidence‑based problem solving, communicates confidently, embraces change, and manages resources effectively. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, and possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education Graduate from an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred. Experience Minimum of 1.5 years (18 months) of recent Labor and Delivery experience, preferably in a center serving high‑risk patients. License/Certification Registered Nurse by California Board of Registered Nursing Basic Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA) or RQI Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support NRP Provider Card by American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) within 90 days of hire Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA) within 90 days of hire or RQI Healthcare Provider Advanced Life Support Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (Advanced) by Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) or Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (Advanced) by AWHONN Certification Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C‑EFM) from National Certification Corporation (NCC) Knowledge Skill requirements to perform functions as described in the position description addendum according to the clinical level. Machine, tools, and equipment operated: proficient in the operation of clinical equipment, computers, and technology within the nurse’s practice setting. Fiscal accountability and resource stewardship: judicious use of materials and supplies, prevention of damage or loss of equipment. Supervision: may be responsible for guiding, assisting, and directing unlicensed assistive personnel as defined by the California Nurse Practice Act and the organization’s policies. Pay Range Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and internal equity. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range. Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $96.35 to $111.14.
