SUMMARY:

The Traveling Safety Specialist is responsible for leading construction safety efforts across capital projects within active snack manufacturing and industrial environments. This role monitors and maintains a safe workplace in compliance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and owner-specific safety expectations. The position serves as a key resource to project teams, contractors, and stakeholders by providing safety leadership, contractor oversight, permitting guidance, risk management, and compliance support throughout the project lifecycle.

The Traveling Safety Specialist plays a critical role in driving a proactive safety culture through field presence, audits, inspections, training, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position works closely with project managers, site leadership, contractors, engineering teams, and safety personnel to ensure construction activities are executed safely while supporting project schedules, budgets, and operational continuity.

This position provides professional expertise in health, safety, and environmental programs, including regulatory compliance, contractor safety management, permit-to-work programs, incident investigations, and risk mitigation strategies. The role also supports project governance through safety reporting, communication, and performance tracking across multiple project sites.

This position reports administratively to the Safety Director and partners closely with project execution teams, contractors, and client stakeholders to coordinate safety program efforts and outcomes. Frequent travel to active construction sites and manufacturing facilities is required.

This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week, with additional hours as needed to support project and operational requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead safety oversight for capital construction projects within active snack manufacturing facilities.
• Ensure compliance with owner, contractor, regulatory, and insurance safety requirements.
• Manage contractor safety performance, permitting, and high-risk work activities.
• Conduct safety audits, inspections, observations, and incident investigations.
• Develop and maintain site-specific safety plans, risk registers, and corrective action plans.
• Lead safety meetings, training, and stakeholder communications.
• Track and report safety metrics, KPIs, incidents, and compliance activities.
• Promote a proactive safety culture and enforce stop-work authority.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Safety, Construction Management, Project Management, or Engineering, or military equivalency
• Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
• 5-10 years of practical field experience or military equivalency
• Microsoft Office Suite of products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, etc.)
• OSHA 30, STSC, or CHST certifications
• CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications
• Procore experience
• Must be highly motivated and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Must be able to travel and willing to work occasional weekends if needed
• Ability to work in an effective, safe manner with little supervision
