Veterinary Extern - General Practice

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Every NVA hospital is unique, but all share a supportive environment, commitment to excellent medicine, and exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, provide dentistry services, observe or assist in surgical procedures, and medically manage patients. In addition to practicing clinical skills, externs will develop communication abilities with medical teams, support staff, and clients. Most externship experiences at Forest Hill Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Forest Hill Animal Hospital are designed for clinical‑year students. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
