Mechanical/HVAC VDC SpecialistOur Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team is at the forefront of modern mechanical construction. By integrating BIM, 3D coordination, and advanced prefabrication workflows, we directly optimize ductwork, piping, and mechanical layouts to ensure maximum efficiency, accuracy, and safety on every project.As a Mechanical/HVAC VDC Specialist, you will bridge the gap between technical modeling and physical mechanical systems. Operating with a high degree of independence, you will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and superintendents throughout the project lifecycle to deliver high-quality coordination and fabrication drawings.Key ResponsibilitiesBIM Modeling & Coordination: Develop and manage 3D BIM models for HVAC ductwork, piping, and mechanical equipment using Revit; perform clash detection and coordinate resolutions with other trades.Fabrication Support: Produce precise prefabrication and spool drawings to support off-site fabrication of ductwork, piping assemblies, and mechanical racks.Quality & Constructability: Conduct constructability reviews and internal QA/QC checks against contract documents; manage model updates, version control, and drawing issuances as design evolves.Field & Laser Scanning: Assist with laser scanning of existing conditions, incorporating point cloud data into mechanical models and collaborating with superintendents for field verification and site logistics.Estimating Support: Assist with quantity take-offs and modeling to support estimating for mechanical scopes during preconstruction.Communication & Training: Maintain professional communication with engineers, subcontractors, and owners regarding coordination status; provide training and support to field and project staff on VDC workflows.RequirementsExperience with Revit (mechanical/HVAC modeling) and Navisworks for clash detection and coordinationUnderstanding of ductwork, piping systems, and mechanical equipment installation practicesAbility to read and interpret mechanical contract documents, drawings, and specificationsFamiliarity with construction documentation procedures (RFIs, submittals, contract documents)Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on assigned projectsEffective communication skills for collaborating with engineers, trade partners, and project teamsPreferred Skills/Experience:Experience with BlueBeam, Recap, Trimble SolutionsExperience with mechanical prefabrication/spool drawing productionUnderstanding of applicable mechanical, energy, and building codesExperience coordinating on healthcare, industrial, or large commercial projects2+ years of related BIM/VDC experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field a plus, but not required with relevant experienceExperience with fire system layout and coordination a plus but not required.What We OfferOpportunity to work with an established VDC/prefabrication program supporting mechanical and multi-trade projectsCollaborative team environment with mentorship from experienced VDC and field leadershipExposure to a wide range of project types — healthcare, industrial, commercial, and institutionalCareer growth path toward senior VDC, coordination, or management rolesScheduleFull-time exempt/salaried position with a core schedule of Monday through Thursday.
