Maintenance/Electrical Technician

The Maintenance/Electrical Technician will have experience in programmable logic controllers (PLC's), pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, fabrication, wiring schematics, and general plumbing.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for analysis, testing, and routine maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment with an emphasis on PLC hardware and programming.
• Diagnoses causes of malfunctions or failures and performs preventive/corrective maintenance.
• Repairs and maintains, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as motors, pneumatic tools, production machines and equipment, using hand tools, power tools and precision-measuring and testing instruments.
• Implements safety controls onto machinery.
• Establishes a pattern of continuous improvement and working with accepted quality guidelines to achieve goals.
• Diagnoses, replaces, and maintains damaged or faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
• Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment, following manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints.
• Maintains electrical component inventories and makes recommendations for purchase and replenishment.
• Works closely with the engineering department personnel to implement and plan improvement projects.
• Plans the layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatuses in the plant.
• Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.
• Lubricates and cleans parts.
• May set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
• Required to complete other activities assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

• Experience working as a Maintenance/Electrical Technician.
• Strong analytical, mechanical, and solution-driven skills.
• Good communication skills (both verbally and in writing).
• Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety.
• Ability to make critical decisions while following company procedures.
• Demonstrated reliability.
• A work history that demonstrates the ability to set or exceed goals.

Physical Demands (including, but not limited to)

• Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
• Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.
• Access all areas within the plant which could include confined spaces, ladders, or stairs.
• The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils, and atmospheric conditions such as dust and fumes.
• The employee will be required to perform the following actions: standing, walking, balancing, stooping, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing, and sitting.
• Ability to occasionally lift or carry 50 pounds.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, preferably in a manufacturing/industrial environment, is preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

A Certified Electrician with the State of Alabama is a plus.

Education

High school diploma or GED equivalent. Completion of an apprenticeship program, technical program, or equivalent experience in industrial electrical maintenance background is preferred.
