Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This position is to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, modify and test aircraft engines within the Aviation Classification and Repair Activity Depot (AVCRAD). DEFINITION OF AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1 = Enlisted members of the Louisiana National Guard. Learn more about this agency Duties Help Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Independently inspects aircraft and determines the nature and extent of repairs to be made, using applicable technical orders as guidelines. Works directly on the aircraft and its components, fulfilling such tasks as removal, repair, modification and installation of parts and assemblies, such as frames, stringers, longerons, bulkheads, beams, ribs, spars, skin, cowling, brackets, faring, access doors, panels and other related items. May be required to clear red "X" conditions. 2. Repairs cracks in aircraft skin. Fabricates and fits patches to damaged areas, determining repair detail necessary to retain or restore original strength. Fits and trims components to aircraft such as landing gear doors, control surfaces, flaps access doors and other assemblies. Seals structures to make them pressure, water and weather tight. (3) Troubleshoots aircraft structural repair situations in such areas as fuselage, tails, wings, cowlings, and stabilizers. Removes, forms, fits, and installs highly stressed and double contoured skins, using hand or powered drilling and cutting tools and other metal working equipment. Determines shear and bearing load factors during rivet replacement. Installs heads up, regular, heat treated, high shear, and blind type aircraft rivets and fasteners, using pneumatic riveters, special tools and bucking bars. Removes damaged or broken fasteners and receptacles. 3. Troubleshoots aircraft structural repair situations in such areas as fuselage, tails, wings, cowlings, and stabilizers. Removes, forms, fits, and installs highly stressed and double contoured skins, using hand or powered drilling and cutting tools and other metal working equipment. Determines shear and bearing load factors during rivet replacement. Installs heads up, regular, heat treated, high shear, and blind type aircraft rivets and fasteners, using pneumatic riveters, special tools and bucking bars. Removes damaged or broken fasteners and receptacles. 4. Aligns and balances component structures and airframe using precision measuring instruments and levels. Performs metal-to-metal bonding where delamination of surfaces and core material occurs in control surfaces. 5. Inspects damage or deterioration and determines repair or replacement of plastic, fiberglass, composites, bonded structures, and bonded honeycomb assemblies using powered and nonpowered tools and equipment. Repairs or replaces retaining frames and installs plastic laminated blanks. Designs and constructs forming fixtures. 6. Assists to fabricate, modify, and assemble a variety of rotary wing aircraft and aircraft sheet metal structural parts, components, and portions of assemblies and systems. Supervisor or lead establishes specific work priorities. Supervisor, lead, or journey level mechanic spot checks completed work and checks work documents for accuracy and compliance with required maintenance and modification. 7. Assists with lay outs and fabricates individual aircraft sheet metal parts from various sheet metals, extruded metal, honeycomb material, composite materials and various other metal alloys. Assists in cutting, bending, forming materials using hand tools, powered tools, and computer numerically controlled machines (CNC) to include CNC 2D pattern cutting water jets and CNC 2D pattern cutting lasers. Assembles formed parts. Assists in conducting hardness and conductivity testing to verify heat treat condition of aluminum alloys. 8. Works with higher graded journey level sheet metal mechanics to accomplish larger and more complex operations. Attends on-the-job training on assigned projects and related tasks to include classroom instruction as necessary. Processes and accounts for due-in supply assets. Ensures that material and equipment are properly stored, protected, and maintained. May be required to serve on maintenance assistance teams through the supported region. 9. Prepares and designs layout, dies, jigs, and templates necessary to carry out fabrication repair or modification of aircraft, engine, AGE, and other equipment. Works from blueprints, technical orders diagrams, and work orders. 10. Identifies metal corrosion. Performs necessary testing to identify type corrosion present by examination with magnifying equipment, chemical and mechanical methods and treats aircraft engines, in accordance with applicable technical publications. Ensures that work assignments received from supervisor or maintenance control are accomplished in a timely manner. 11. Removes corrosion by mechanical and chemical procedures to include use of portable powered (electric and pneumatic) sanders, buffers, brushes, bead blasters, vacuum cleaners, scrapers, grinders, acids, caustics, solvents, alcohols and other agents used in corrosion control processes. Treats metal with chemical procedures, such as acids and caustics for passivation and etching, to protect metal from oxidation. 12. Performs other as duties as assigned. Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: (WG-08) Must possess at least Twelve (12) months experience or training planning, manufacturing, and installing cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastening; experience cutting and forming by using basic hand and powered tools such as hammers, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, squaring shears, seamers, bar folders, breaks, and stakes; experience assembling parts by seaming, bolting, screwing, riveting, tacking, spot-welding, or soldering; experience demonstrating a basic understanding of using measuring instruments. (WG-10) Must possess at least Eighteen (18) months experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories; experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and powertrains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft; experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical records, and diagnosis. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 1. This is an Army National Guard dual status technician position which requires military membership. 2. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. *3. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. 4. This is a Testing Designated Position TDP. The employee is subject to random drug testing. Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment. Note: The caveat is that the states, territories, and the district cannot drug test until a drug free workplace policy has been established and approved by the United States Department of Health and Human Services. 5. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. 6. Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission. Education You must provide transcripts and/or other documentation as proof to support your Educational claims, and receive credit to meet the Education requirements for this position.
