Histology Technologist

Job Description – Histotechnician / Histotechnologist (Travel/Contract) Shift: 5x8 Hour Shifts (Early Morning) Shift Timing: 4:00 AM – Monday to Friday Hours: 40 hours/week Contract Duration: 9–10 weeks Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) to perform routine and advanced histology procedures in a high-quality laboratory environment. The role emphasizes precision, efficiency, and quality tissue processing to support accurate pathology diagnoses. Key Responsibilities Specimen Handling & Processing Validate specimen identification, type, and adequacy Prioritize workload based on lab protocols and turnaround times Process specimens using tissue processors with correct sequencing and programming Embedding & Microtomy Embed tissue samples accurately Section at minimum 30 blocks/hour using microtome Cut sections at appropriate thickness and prepare correct number of slides per specimen Maintain high quality with minimal pathologist complaints (≤1 documented issue) Staining & Slide Preparation Perform routine and special stains, including: AFB Mucin (MSN) Gram Oil Red O (ORO) Prioritize and multitask staining workflows efficiently Coverslip slides at minimum 3 slides/minute Label and distribute slides promptly for pathologist review Special Procedures & Lab Support Assist in: Liver biopsies Fine needle aspirations (FNA) Retrieve fresh specimens from: Main lab Cryostat lab NGI suite CT suite Electron Microscopy lab Troubleshooting & Documentation Perform inquiry functions (technical, specimen, results) Troubleshoot laboratory and processing issues Ensure compliance with lab quality standards Required Qualifications Minimum 2 years of paid histology experience, Hospital or reference lab experience preferred Certification: HT (ASCP) – Histotechnician OR HTL (ASCP) – Histotechnologist (Required) Education: Associate’s Degree in Science or Histology Preferred Skills Experience with: Special stains Frozen sections Non-gynecological cytology processing Core Competencies Strong embedding and microtomy skills Quality-focused approach (quality over speed) Knowledge of laboratory workflows and operations Ability to multitask and prioritize efficiently Strong communication and independent judgment Basic computer proficiency Equipment & Technology Tissue processors Embedding stations Microtomes Cryostats Stainers Microscopes Centrifuges *Offered pay rate will be based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.
