Safety Representative

Position Summary

The Safety Representative provides hands-on safety support at active project and construction sites. This position is responsible for monitoring field activities, identifying hazards, reinforcing safe work practices, conducting inspections, supporting safety training, and helping ensure employees and subcontractors follow company and job-site safety requirements.

The Safety Representative serves as a visible safety resource for field personnel and works closely with Foremen, Project Managers, the Safety Manager, and other project stakeholders to promote a proactive safety culture and address safety concerns promptly.

Principal Accountabilities

• Conduct regular job-site safety inspections and observations to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and potential risks.
• Monitor field activities to ensure employees and subcontractors follow company, OSHA, customer, and job-site safety requirements.
• Provide immediate coaching and guidance to employees and field leadership when unsafe conditions or work practices are identified.
• Assist with the implementation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Site-Specific Safety Plans, and other required safety documentation.
• Conduct or assist with daily and weekly safety meetings, toolbox talks, new-hire orientations, and other field safety training.
• Verify employees are using required personal protective equipment (PPE) and following appropriate safe work practices.
• Monitor common construction hazards, including electrical, fall protection, ladders, elevated work, material handling, housekeeping, tools and equipment, and other applicable hazards.
• Support electrical and low-voltage safety practices, including lockout/tagout, electrical hazard awareness, safe use of tools and equipment, and appropriate PPE.
• Report safety violations, hazards, incidents, near misses, and other concerns to the Safety Manager and appropriate project leadership.
• Assist with incident, injury, near-miss, and property-damage investigations and help document findings and corrective actions.
• Follow up on identified hazards and corrective actions to ensure issues are addressed and closed timely.
• Maintain accurate and timely inspection reports, safety observations, training records, incident documentation, and other required safety records.
• Assist with customer, general contractor, regulatory, and insurance safety inspections and requirements.
• Monitor project sites for proper housekeeping, access, signage, barricades, PPE, emergency procedures, and other applicable safety requirements.
• Verify safety equipment, first-aid supplies, fire extinguishers, and other required safety resources are available and maintained as appropriate.
• Communicate safety concerns professionally and effectively with Foremen, Project Managers, employees, subcontractors, customers, and other trades.
• Support the Safety Manager with safety audits, reporting, training initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
• Stay current with OSHA requirements, company safety procedures, construction safety practices, and hazards relevant to telecommunications, low-voltage, and electrical work.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
• Travel between project sites as required and work extended or varying hours based on project needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-3 years of construction, telecommunications, electrical, low-voltage, safety, or field operations experience preferred.
• Experience working on active construction or project sites preferred.
• Working knowledge of basic construction safety practices and OSHA requirements.
• Ability to recognize common job-site hazards and communicate corrective actions effectively.
• Strong observation, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining close communication with the Safety Manager and project leadership.
• Ability to interact professionally with field employees, supervisors, contractors, and customers.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability and willingness to travel to multiple job sites.

Preferred Qualifications

• OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction certification.
• CPR/First Aid certification.
• Safety-related training or certification.
• Experience with telecommunications, structured cabling, low-voltage, electrical, data center, or infrastructure construction.
• Familiarity with fall protection, electrical safety, ladders, PPE, lockout/tagout, and other common construction safety practices.
• Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.

Typical Physical and Mental Demands


The position may require long hours, handle conflicts, and make decisions under pressure and in inclement weather situations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must stand, walk, use hands and fingers to, handle, feel or operate tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must climb a ladder while lifting up to 50 pounds, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear and smell. The employee must have specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
