Job Description Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, conforming to local building codes, by performing the following duties. This position operates in a commercial construction environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places and outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Responsibilities
- Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
- Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
- Prepares layout.
- Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials.
- Shapes materials to prescribed measurements.
- Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
- Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter's level.
- Erects framework for structures and lays subflooring.
- Builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work.
- Covers subfloor with building paper to keep out moisture and lays hardwood, parquet, and wood-strip-block floors by nailing floors to subfloor or cementing them to mastic or asphalt base.
- Applies shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
- Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates.
- Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
- Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
- Immediately report all Incidents/Accidents, no matter how small, to their Supervisor.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent or ten (10) years carpentry experience will be considered.
- Minimum three (3) years carpentry experience.
- Driver's License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy preferred.
