Systems Engineer

Job Description Everforth ECS is seeking a Systems Engineer to work at our Ft. Meade, MD office. The Systems Engineer will support robust Impact Level (IL) 5 and IL6 programs in an operational DoW environment that houses multiple U.S. Coalition Mission Partner Environments (MPE). The role involves designing, developing, installing, documenting, managing, and maintaining a DoD Mission Partner Enclave's physical and virtual network infrastructure. The Systems Engineer will operate in a demanding high‑energy environment requiring innovative solutions to hardware, software, network, and operational challenges, reporting directly to the Project Manager. Duties Install, configure, maintain, update, manage, and refine information systems. Ensure system components maintain compliance with DoD requirements (e.g., STIGs). Examine enclave vulnerabilities and determine actions to mitigate them. Engineer and maintain VMware ESXi, VMware vCenter, Hyper‑V, and enterprise virtualization infrastructure. Support: VMware ESXi, VMware vCenter, Hyper‑V, and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). Out‑of‑band patching and upgrades; this may require non‑standard working hours. The development of cyber security policies, procedures, and standards. Coordinate and/or provide support for all enclave applications and operations. Recommend, schedule, and/or implement repairs within the enclave environment. Develop and maintain images for virtual desktops and servers. Evaluate system performance and make appropriate recommendations. Schedule and perform backups on all enclave systems. Conduct functional, interoperability, and security testing. Analyze system performance for potential security problems. Participate in technical incident response and security assessment activities. Provide knowledge transfer to team members and clients as needed. Write, edit, and execute technical documents including, but not limited to, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Concepts of Operation (CONOPS), network diagrams, and other documents, as required. Travel to data centers as needed for maintenance. Other duties as assigned. Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000 Required Skills US Citizen. Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance. Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar STEM discipline. Active DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISM, CISSP preferred). Hands‑on experience managing and troubleshooting VMware environments in a production setting. Proven expertise in administering core VMware products including vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi. Experience configuring and managing VMware clusters, HA/DR, and resource pools. Architect, deploy, and manage the end‑to‑end VMware infrastructure to ensure maximum uptime and system performance. Conduct routine maintenance, capacity planning, and performance tuning across all VMware clusters. 10+ years of experience administering, troubleshooting, and deploying solutions in Windows and Linux environment systems/applications. Experience and proficiency working with AWS Cloud services (EC2, S3, RDS, EKS, VPC, IAM) or Azure Cloud services (VM, Storage account, RDS, AKS, VNet, Entra ID). Experience troubleshooting complex network environments including TCP/IP and VLANs. Experience briefing, reporting, and providing technical status updates to leadership both in person and via virtual meetings. Ability to pick up existing and new technologies quickly and document recommendations for government approval. Experience with technologies to apply Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) STIG requirements. Support customer‑driven and standard maintenance windows. Experience with architecting enterprise solutions. Experience with web/application server administration (Apache NGINX, Tomcat). Knowledgeable in storage technologies and procedures/concepts.
