The Atlanta VA Health Care System is recruiting for a Physician (Psychiatrist) in Mental Health Service. The Psychiatrist will be responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric services for Veterans in an outpatient psychiatry clinic, psychiatric inpatient units, and psychiatric emergency department setting. Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment) Authorized: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Provide consultation services to inpatients and to residents of the Community Living Center and residents of the Residential Rehabilitation programs.
• Provide on call services.
• Provide general psychiatric care to male and female adult Veterans which include, but is not limited to, conducting diagnostic evaluations, psychiatric consultation, medication management, and individual or group psychotherapy.
• Prescribes the appropriate psychotropic medications, provides general clinical management of patients, and requests appropriate consultations with other medical disciplines.
• Assesses risk factors and develops a preliminary disposition plan, involving the Veteran and the family/significant other.
• Provides treatment for common diagnoses to include anxiety disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depression and other mood disorders, Substance Use Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, other Serious Mental Illnesses, and mental disorder related to Traumatic Brain Injuries.
• Provides assessment of serious and complicated cases involving psychiatric illness, catastrophic medical conditions, dementia, and other high-risk diagnoses.
• Exercises clinical judgment in the selection of or adaptation of standard and accepted clinical theories, techniques, and practices in treating patients or developing new techniques and programs for the treatment of specialized problems or clinical populations.
• Establishes professional working relationships with clinical service providers within the medical center and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's), providing telephone and curbside consultation as needed and screening consults that are received for appropriateness prior to scheduling. The psychiatrist will conduct Compensation and Pension (C&P) exams as requested by the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) and the Regional Office.
• May be expected to provide direct clinical supervision of mid-level providers, psychiatric advanced practice nurses or physician assistants and other staff as appropriate.
• Provides telephone and electronic assessments as needed.
• Maintains a clinical caseload including individual and/or group treatment at the Atlanta VAMC. Exact nature of clinical responsibilities may vary depending on incumbent's areas of expertise and service line needs.
• Provides psychiatric care to Veterans at the Atlanta VAMC Emergency Room, to include triage, stabilization, hospitalization, or disposition planning, as well as to Veterans evaluated and treated on the inpatient psychiatry unit.
• Provides supervision, guidance, teaching, and consultation to Atlanta VAMC MHSL clinical staff including psychiatry residents and fellows as well as other clinical trainees and clinical staff.
• Cooperates with, and participates in, medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review, and other performance improvement activities.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and could include evening and/or Saturday hours. Work schedule may change based on the Agency's needs
