Grouse Malt house is seeking an experienced, motivated, flexible, and multi-talented Quality technician. This role, as part of the Grouse production team, requires passion for craft malting and being involved in a fast-paced, growing company. The Quality Technician is responsible for precise and thorough analysis of quality parameters, metrics of incoming grain and outgoing products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Quality:

· Maintain and continuously improve incoming raw grain movements:

o Receiving into inventory software, traceability, food safety, and quality sampling analysis

· Lead production batch tracking system, malt, and toll processing COAs

· Perform daily “in-process” batch quality analysis:

o Lead daily grain evaluation in germination stage.

o Knowledge and monitoring of malt batches through entire process (levels, temperatures, etc.)

o Recording process data and NOTES on how the grain looks, smells, and tastes.

o “Release” production batches from quality analysis into packaging activities

· Lead finished malt analysis and sensory activities

o Collect and organize malt sample library

o Consistent daily product (malt and roast) releases and preparation of packaging plans

· Increasing product consistency by reducing variations between batches.

· Customer support, providing insight, documentation on using gluten-free grains and malt.

· Develop needed SOPs and quality documents

· Ensure food safety and gluten- free certification rules are followed

· Knowledge of and compliance with the Allergen (Gluten) Program

· Engaged on GF social media, including the homebrewing community

· Develop Quality training program

· Assist with on-boarding new employees and perform Quality training

· Ownership of Lab 5S program

· Lead on the Pilot Brewing system

Production:

· Assist with all daily production activities as needed, including but not limited to:

o Steep in, Transfers, GKV unloads, GKV cleaning, Packaging, Grain Deliveries, and Shipments

· Performing morning checks and/or opening duties as needed.

· Modify and Improve production SOPs and systems when identified

· Maintain a clean, safe, & organized work environment.

· Assist with Facility and equipment maintenance as needed

· Ensuring cleaning, closing duties, and checklists are completed.

· Performing facility checks and escalating any equipment or process issues present at end of day.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

· Degree in Food Science or similar program

· 2 years of production experience in Malthouse, Brewery, or Food processing

· Ability to work well with a diverse team

· Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

· Strong attention to detail

· Ability to drive a forklift and become forklift certified

· Ability to solve problems and set priorities

· Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and take direction

· Good written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to understand and perform basic math and basic measurements

· Ability to work in small, confined spaces and high places

· Ability to work extended shifts and weekends

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· The ability to work long hours on your feet

· The ability to work in a hot, wet, and loud environment

· The ability to lift 50 lbs to shoulder height

· The ability to crouch, bend, lift and reach

· The ability to remain focused and level-headed under demanding situations

COMPENSATION

Wage information is provided in compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and is Grouse Malt House’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation range and benefits offered for this position. The compensation offered to the successful applicant may vary based on factors including experience, skills, education, location, or other position-related reasons.

Hourly Rate Range:

$23.00 - $30.00/hr depending on experience and performance
