This team is responsible for product development from concept through market launch and product stabilization, which was recently completed for the award winning da Vinci 5. Sensing solutions are critical to the safe and effective operation of our systems.This role requires intensive collaboration with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, system analysts and others to both compile the full sensor and system requirements set, as well as creating or sourcing a suitable solution. Essential Job Duties This position has responsibility to: Develop, test and qualify sensors for robotic surgical systems, with an emphasis on force and torque sensingAuthor, collect and compile sensor requirementsWork across all salient Engineering, Manufacturing and Product disciplines to guarantee the full requirements set is satisfied optimallyRapidly develop and iterate prototypes of candidate solutionsPerform design FMEADesign for reliability, cost and manufacturabilityExercise creativity and ruthless attachment to clear minded, first principles driven developmentContribute to engineering process and community through design reviews, talks, mentoring and brainstormingWork with external suppliers and partners to source sensorsQualificationsRequired Education, Skills and Experience10+ years of direct experience in mechanical development, with 5+ years in sensor development or a closely related fieldBS Mechanical EngineeringTechnical expertise with sensor mechanical structures, topologies, sensing methods such as strain gauges and associated manufacturing methodsMulti-physics analysis and simulationDesign of mechanical components and assemblies in SolidWorks or similar CAD softwareSelection and technical management of external sensor supplierPreferred Education, Skills and ExperienceExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalPassion for product quality and continuous improvementSelf-driven with the ability to excel in a high-energy, small, focused team environment to maintain a strong sense of shared responsibility and rewardMS Mechanical EngineeringSurgical or medical device experience, regulated industry experienceANSYS, MATLAB, PYTHONAdditional InformationDue to the nature of our business and the role, please note that Intuitive and/or your customer(s) may require that you show current proof of vaccination against certain diseases including COVID-19.
