We Pursue a Higher Standard
We are a U.S.-based, well-diversified, growing precious metals producer with seven wholly-owned operations: the New Afton gold-copper mine in British Columbia, Canada, the Rainy River gold-silver mine in Ontario, Canada, the Las Chispas silver-gold mine in Sonora, Mexico, the Palmarejo gold-silver mine in Chihuahua, Mexico, the Rochester silver-gold mine in Nevada, the Kensington gold mine in Alaska and the Wharf gold mine in South Dakota. In addition, the Company wholly-owns the Silvertip polymetallic critical minerals exploration project in British Columbia, Canada.
Coeur Alaska’s Kensington mine comprises an underground, hard-rock gold mine, associated milling facilities and a campsite in the historic Berners Bay Mining District, 45 miles north-northwest of Juneau. The mine is accessed via company transportation including bus rides and a boat ride through Lynn Canal.
Coeur Alaska is an integral part of the local community and actively supports education and workforce development programs, environmental stewardship efforts, arts and culture, and local nonprofit agencies through monetary investments, in-kind support, and employee volunteerism.
Approximately 400 miners, mechanics, engineers, operators, geologists, environmental technicians, exploration, and business leaders operate the Kensington mine. Coeur Alaska prioritizes safety, teamwork, career development and growth. If you want to grow your career in a progressive, team-oriented environment, apply today.
About the Job:
Coeur Alaska is seeking a motivated mineral process engineering student, to complete a Co-Op with our Metallurgical and Assay team, within Process Operations at the Kensington Mine in 2027 (Jan through August OR May through Dec) (minimum 6 months, ideally 8 months). The Kensington Mine is an underground gold mine located within the Berners Bay Mining District about 45 miles north of Juneau, Alaska.
Our Co-Op program will provide you with the opportunity to gain real-world, on-the-job experience at Coeur Alaska. Interns are mentored throughout the Co-Op by industry professionals and given ownership of projects with a tangible impact on the company. Longer rotations at site (~3 weeks on and 1 week off) will be required.
What You’ll be Doing:
The Co-Op student will be responsible for projects in the mill, water treatment and in the office working specifically on efficiencies to be gained in our process operations; they will report to the Metallurgical Team. The Co-Op will be expected to learn all aspects of operation in the assay lab and metallurgical testing lab. Experience hands on operation of the water treatment and milling circuits are part of the development to allow for proper project co-ordination and execution with the goal to increase overall productivity of the mining and milling operations.
Co-Op participants will collaborate creatively and technically with Summer Interns, to create a group presentation, highlighting a company area of improvement. The Co-Op experience truly culminates with all Co-Op/interns traveling for a paid trip to Chicago! This includes each group presenting their project, meeting and learning from key company leaders, as well as networking with their fellow bright early careers participants across the company.
What We’re Looking For:
- Undergraduate entering Junior or Senior year.

- Ability to work safely and promote a safety mindset through design and action
- Project and teamwork experience
- Ability to work both independently and with a multidisciplinary team (engineers, miners, mechanics, electricians, geologists, safety coordinators, etc.)

Responsibilities:
