M.S. Johnston Company is seeking a motivated Junior Project Manager to support our commercial HVAC and mechanical construction operations. This role is ideal for an early-career professional looking to develop the technical, financial, and leadership skills necessary to become a successful Project Manager.

Working alongside experienced Project Managers and field leaders, you will gain hands-on experience managing commercial construction projects from award through closeout while learning the business of mechanical contracting.

We are looking for someone who is organized, eager to learn, mechanically inclined, and excited about building a long-term career in construction project management.

What You'll Do

Project Support

• Assist Project Managers with commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects
• Support multiple projects at various stages of completion
• Participate in project turnover meetings
• Help maintain project schedules and project documentation
• Track project milestones, action items, and deliverables
• Assist with project closeout activities

Procurement & Equipment Tracking

• Assist with equipment and material procurement activities
• Track long lead equipment and delivery schedules
• Coordinate with suppliers and vendors
• Monitor equipment submittals and approvals
• Help identify potential procurement risks before they impact project schedules

Project Documentation

• Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, logs, and project correspondence
• Maintain organized project files and documentation
• Assist with meeting minutes and project reporting
• Help ensure compliance with contract requirements and project specifications

Financial & Administrative Support

• Assist with job cost tracking and budget monitoring
• Support change order preparation and documentation
• Assist with project billing processes and financial reporting
• Help maintain accurate project records and reporting systems

Field Coordination

• Visit jobsites regularly to gain field experience
• Support Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen with project coordination
• Monitor project progress and communicate updates
• Learn commercial HVAC construction practices, sequences, and best practices

Customer & Team Communication

• Build positive working relationships with customers, field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal staff
• Participate in project meetings and customer communications
• Develop professional communication and leadership skills

Qualifications

Required

• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (emphasis on building industry), Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Business, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
• Strong attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel
• Willingness to learn commercial HVAC systems and construction processes

Preferred

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (emphasis on building industry)
• Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management
• Internship or co-op experience in construction, engineering, or project management
• Commercial HVAC, mechanical construction, facilities, or maintenance experience
• Experience with project management software platforms
• Microsoft Project or similar scheduling software experience
• Military construction, engineering, logistics, or facilities experience
• OSHA 10 Certified

Employment Requirements

Employment with M.S. Johnston Company is contingent upon meeting pre-employment requirements and successfully completing the introductory employment period.

The selected candidate must:

• Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening
• Successfully complete a 90-day introductory/probationary period
• Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
