Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

The EHS Specialist monitors work activities, identifies hazards, ensures compliance, and supports a safe, environmentally responsible workplace.

EHS Specialist Requirements:

Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently

Basic math skills

High School diploma or GED

Pass a Security/background/drug screening. Ability to gain access to Shipyards

Near and distance vision

Possess a CA Drivers License

OSHA 10 Hour Maritime/Shipyard Safety cert.

EHS Specialist Experience:

Shipyard Experience as a shipyard safety technician/quality inspector.

Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard items

Experience working aboard a Navy vessel

Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Shipyard Employment

Ability to understand work specifications, SDS and regulatory requirements

Physical Requirements:

Climbing vertical and inclined ladders, accessing scaffolding and platforms. Working at heights and accessing confined or enclosed spaces

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct EHS inspections, identify hazards, and track corrective actions.

Monitor shipyard and industrial operations for OSHA, NAVSEA, customer, and company compliance.

Support incident investigations, environmental compliance, HAZMAT management, and required documentation.

Assist with safety training, orientations, JHAs, AHAs, permits, and pre-job safety meetings.

Promote safe work practices, proper PPE, and a strong safety culture across all work activities.
